Sunnydale Math X Tech Fest II

26-27 January 2024

Category
Participants can be from either of two categories:

1. Junior (Grade 7, 8, 9)
2. Senior (Grade 10, 11, 12)

NOTE: ALL PARTICIPANTS CAN PARTICIPATE IN ALL SEGMENTS BY PAYING REGISTRATION

FEE ONCE, IRRESPECTIVE OF WHICH CATEGORY THEY ARE FROM. ALL SEGMENTS WILL
HAVE SEPARATE QUESTION PAPERS FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR CATEGORIES. FOR EACH
SEGMENT, THERE ARE 3 AWARDS PER CATEGORY: 1ST, 2ND & 3RD.

Segments
There will be a total of 8 segments: 4 math-based and 4 tech-based.

The segments are:

1. Mathsketeers
2. Numberphile
3. Mathemine
4. CryptoCraft Chronicles
5. Code Jam 2.0
6. Sher-unlocked
7. Crisis Computerised
8. MechanoCraft

1. Mathsketeers (Team)
CALCULATOR ❌ (45 min)
A relay race but of math! A team of 4 is required to participate. The segment consists of 4
broad questions, each of a unique pre-announced category to be solved by a team
member. Together, the 4 questions form a continuous storyline where the participants
overcome a crisis to save the earth. The team that can save humanity from extinction
fastest wins.
2. Numberphile (Individual)
This segment has two rounds:

Round 1: Math Chicktionary - CALCULATOR ❌ (15 min)

Love the game Chicktionary but disappointed that it only exists on your computer? Well we
have brought it for you in real life, and this time with letters swapped with numbers!
Participants will be given a set of numbers and will be required to use them to form
mathematical equations through addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or any
combination of them. In addition, there will also be a small math crossword to solve but
they will have to do it all in very little time; only 15 minutes. The 5 highest scorers move on
to round 2.

Round 2: Measure Hunt - NO CALCULATOR ❌(30 min)

The classic Treasure Hunt is back, but more interesting than ever! Participants will be given
a sheet of mathematical questions where only the 1st question is complete. They solve that
to get directions on the next clue. The next clue provides information needed to solve the
2nd math and so on. What do those clues lead to? A secret that you can only find out by
playing.

3. MatheMine (Team)- Buzzer Round

It is a team segment consisting of 2-4 members per team. It will consist of 2 rounds.

Round 1: Count the Odds CALCULATOR ✅

Participants will be displayed 5 categories of questions on various mathematical concepts
including permutations and combinations, probability, geometry, algebra, sequences,
circles, etc. Under each category there will be 5 questions worth points 100, 200, 300, 400
and 500 in increasing order of difficulty. The questions are initially hidden from the
participants.

Sample of how the board content will look:

Team 1 chooses a question from any of those 20 questions displayed. If answered correctly
within 60 seconds, the team will get the score corresponding to the card they chose;
likewise, if answered incorrectly, the team loses points of the same worth. Furthermore, if
they answer incorrectly, the other teams can answer within the time remaining from the 60
seconds. Who gets the chance to answer depends on who rings the buzzer first.

How the score of each team changes with every question will be shown on the board. The 4
teams with highest scores move on to round 2.

Round 2: MathJack CALCULATOR ✅

In the finals, there will be a total of 4 teams. Similar to Round 1, the participants will have to
choose questions from a board. However, for the last 5 questions in this round, one team
will have to bet against another team before choosing the question. For example, if Team A
bets against Team B for a question board worth 200 points, then, if they answer correctly,
Team A gets 200 points and Team B loses 200 points. However, if Team A answers
incorrectly, it loses 200 points and B gains 200 points.

4. CryptoCraft Chronicles (Wall Magazine) (Team or Individual)

The participants will be required to submit a project in the form of a wall magazine on the
1st day. The projects will be judged and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner announced at the
award giving ceremony. The projects can be presented as a team or as an individual.
Number of members in a team will be capped off at 4.

Topic:

● Junior (Grade 7-9): Select any one mathematician from history and represent their
life story, works and/or findings to us in an artistic manner.
● Senior (Grade 10-12): Make a project on blockchain and cryptocurrency or artificial
intelligence (AI). Projects may or may not explore their importance, advantages and
disadvantages.

The projects need to be pasted on top of a cork-sheet, or can be presented on an easel so

that they can be kept standing. The participant must write their names, school name and
class BEHIND the cork sheet.

5. Code Jam 2.0 (Individual)

‘Code Jam’ consists of two rounds that will provide the students with an opportunity to
showcase their tech-savviness, problem-solving abilities, coding skills, and their critical
thinking skills.

Round 1 : Binary Brainiacs (30 min) - CALCULATOR ✅

Participants will be provided with a written quiz consisting of multiple-choice, true/false,
and fill-in-the-blank questions, covering a range of tech-related topics.

Round 2 : Coder’s Conquest (60 min) - CALCULATOR ✅

It will be conducted in the computer lab. The highest scoring 15 participants in the first
round will compete in the Coder’s Conquest. Participants will be provided with interesting
tech-based problems and puzzles on the computer which require them to write coded
solutions within a time limit. Students can choose programming languages of their choice
such as Java, C++, Python, etc. As before, the difficulty of problems presented will be
tailored according to the junior and senior participant groups.

6. Sher-unlocked (Individual)
Storyline: There has been a murder and the culprit needs to be identified and/or located

CALCULATOR ✅
This segment is our own special take on Sherlock Holmes meets Criminal Case. Each
participant has to solve a series of programming questions where each answer gives a
certain clue regarding the murderer. Once a participant comes to the end of the questions,
he will have amassed a bunch of clues as to who is the true murderer amongst a series of
profiles presented to the participant in advance. Finally, using his clues, the participant has
to pass a verdict on who the true murderer is. The participant who provides the correct
answer first wins.

7. Crisis Computerised 2.0 (Team)

‘Crisis Computerised’ is aimed at empowering our participants to harness technology to
address real-life challenges to make a positive impact on society. Participants enjoy the
freedom to select problem areas from any avenue of the real world that ignite their passion
and concern (healthcare disparities, environmental sustainability, etc). By allowing
participants to choose topics close to their hearts, we encourage authentic and inspired
innovation.

This will consist of two rounds.

Round 1: Pixelated Peril

Participants will have to submit their presentation in a ppt or pdf format, or a video if they
wish to do so, in a link that will be provided in a separate portal in our social media
platforms. Judges will select the best 5 presentations that will move forward to round 2.
This round will take place online before the event commences.

Round 2: PixelPitch

Participants will present their presentations in front of the judges, which will be judged
based on the basis of creativity, practicality and feasibility, scalability, societal impact,
technical proficiency and presentation skills.

8. MechanoCraft (Team)
Teams must be of 2-4 participants. The segment “MechanoCraft” is dedicated towards
robotics, innovation, coding and building team spirit. This segment will comprise of two
parts: a robotics workshop and a robotics display. Our aim is to foster students' interest in
robotics and provide hands-on learning opportunities.

Part 1: Robotics Workshop (“Blocky Bots”)

We will have experts in the field come and give a robotics workshop to the participants on
the 1st day of the event, which will serve as an educational foundation, introducing
participants to the fundamentals of robotics. Our workshop will provide essential lessons
on robotics hardware, sensors, programming, and the principles of robot design. Students
will learn to assemble and program basic robots.

Part 2: RoboRaiders

The teams will be required to display their robots and showcase their abilities. Judges will
evaluate the innovation and technicalities of each robot, and rank them 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

SIDE NOTE: Robots which show some basic movement will be appreciated, though not
mandatory.
