Depreciation Calculation using Straight Line Method

1. Depreciation Calculation

Annual Depreciation = (Cost - Salvage Value) / Useful Life

= (250,000 - 50,000) / 10 = Rs. 20,000 per year

2. Adjusting Entries

For each year 2001, 2002, 2003:

Depreciation Expense A/C Dr. 20,000

To Accumulated Depreciation A/C 20,000

3. Allowance for Depreciation Account

Net Book Value: 230,000

As on December 31, 2002

Machine Cost: 250,000

Less Accumulated Depreciation: 40,000

Net Book Value: 210,000

As on December 31, 2003

Machine Cost: 250,000

Less Accumulated Depreciation: 60,000

Net Book Value: 190,000
