Present simple
We use the Present Simple:
1. for habits and actions that we do regularly:
He visits his friends every Sunday.
She goes to school by bus.
2. for general truth:
The sun rises in the East.
3. for permanent situations:
He lives in Athens.

Spelling rules for the third person (he – she – it)


Affirmative form

1- Most of the verbs add –” s “: walkS – jumpS - danceS


2. Verbs ending in “CH – SH – O – S – X “add – “es “

3. Verbs ending in “y “before a consonant, change the “y” by “i “and add – “es “:

4. Verbs ending in “y “before a vowel, only add – “s “:

AFFIRMATIVE FORM: to build sentences in AFFIRMATIVE FORM in simple
present, we need to take in count the following thing.

Affirmative = Subject + Verb + complement

NEGATIVE FORM: to build sentences in NEGATIVE FORM in simple present, we


need to use the auxiliar DO and DOES.

Negative = Subject + do/does + not + Verb + complement

INTERROGATIVE FORM: to build sentences in INTERROGATIVE FORM in


simple present, we need to use the auxiliar DO and DOES

Does he run in the park? Yes, he does. No, he doesn´t
Does she sleep at night? Yes, she does No, she doesn´t
Does it eat bananas? Yes, it does No, it doesn´t

Do you run at night? Yes, we do. No, we don´t.
