PREPARATION OF OPERATION TABLE

INTRODUCTION

Operation table -a modern operation table has adjustments to enable the


surgeon to give proper and safe position to the patient. An operation
tables, sometimes called operating room tables, is the tables on which the
patient lies during a surgical operation.

DEFINITION

Operation table are also known as surgical tables A patient lies on it


during a surgical procedure. These are integration with all adjustable
settings and features.

PRINCIPLES

Microorganisms are found everywhere on the skin on the articles used by


the patient and in the environment. The nurse take care to prevent the
transfer of microorganisms from the source to the new host by direct or
indirect contact or prevent the multiplications of the microorganisms.

A safe and comfortable bed will ensure rest and sleep and prevent several
complications in bed -ridden patient. F. g: Bedsore foot Sdrop etc..
Good body mechanics maintain body alignment and prevent fatigue.

Systematic ways of functioning save time energy and material

PURPOSE

• There are general operating tables used to perform various procedures


such as cardiovascular, paediatric, abdominal, gynaecology, plastic
surgery, etc.

Some tables are specially designed for specific procedure, e.g.


orthopaedic tables

Weight and height restrictions are set to keep the patients safe during
surgery

Providing a stable and secure platform for surgical procedure

TYPES OF OPERATION THEATER TABLE

1. Electrometric operation table with longitudinal top:

• It is used for various surgical procedures such as cardiology, bariatric,


orthopaedic and neurology.

• It is mobile and electrically operated and can bear upon 300kgs of


weight.

2. Orthopaedic tables:

it is especially designed for orthopedic procedures.

It is a mobile table with orthopedic attachments.


3.C-arm hydraulic operation table:

It is an x-ray compatible table.

It is an hydraulic table with C-arm.

4. Bariatric operation table:

It is a mobile electric surgical tables

• It is used for orthopedic, bariatric neurology and other such surgical


procedures.

It can also be used for laparoscopy

5.Ophtalmic operation table:

It is a motorized operation table.

SURGICAL TABLE ACCESSORIES

These help move the parts of patient body and provide safety to patient
during surgery are functional and specialty -wise accessories. These

body restraints, clamps and sockets, headrests, leg supports, patient
warming, tables operating controls table top pads, X-ray tope, etc...

neurological surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, etc.
SURGICAL BEDS PROCEDURE

1. Prepare the bottom of the bed as in open bed.

2. Place top clothes on the bed but do not trunk in. Fold them using any
one of the following method.

Fold the sides to the middle, them, then top and bottom to the middle,
thus making a packet in, the centre of the bed which can be easily moved
for three reception of the patient. Place this packet over the hot water
bottles in winter

Turn down the top clothes to the shoulder height and then fanfold toward
the locker, having the other side clear for receiving the patient. Place hot
water bottles in the middle of the bed under the fanfolded top clothes in
winter.

3.Instead of pillow, place a small protective Sheet and an anaesthetic


towel on the head end of bed.

4.Keep the tray (mentioned in supplies) on the locker or table nearby and
shock blocks on floor end of the bed ready incase of necessity.

5. Adjust the height of the bed to the level of the strecher.

N. B. When the patient is received in bed, place kidney tray I the bed near
the mouth and pin up the paper bag with the bottom sheet on the side.

OPERATIVE NURSING ROLE

• Patient assessment

• Understanding of surgery/consent

• Perioperative of teaching

• Preparation of sterile instrument and equipment

• Be knowledge on table mechanism

• Prepare table attachment and accessories


CONCLUSION

The design of ot should provide with optimum facilities minimum in


convenience in the management of different areas. The prime
requirement in the design to theatre are the control Of infections and safe
environment for the patient.
