AoL Assessment:
LO 1.2: Students will be able to evaluate competing decision criteria and alternatives.
HBSP Case - Jamie’s Market: Challenges Hiring and Onboarding Temporary Workers
The flagship location of Jamie’s market, a specialty supermarket retailer in California, struggled to
hire enough temporary workers to meet the increased staffing demand resulting from the COVID-19
pandemic. The new assistant manager, who had been recently transferred to the company's flagship
store, was tasked with figuring out what had gone wrong and recommending changes to ensure that
the store would have enough qualified workers.
Objective : Students will be able to recognize the various steps involved in creating an effective hiring
and training process (i.e., job analysis, recruitment and selection, training and socialization); use
information from a job description to determine the job specification (i.e., knowledge, skills, and
abilities) required of potential job candidates; understand the various selection methods to screen
potential job candidates and the pros and cons of each; use the job specification to create structured
interview questions to effectively screen potential job candidates; and describe the best practices for
socializing new employees.
LO 4.2: Students will be able to apply ethical guidelines to address business problems by examining
a set of alternatives.
Short case related to any HR related ethical issue at work will be given to students. The ethical issue
will specifically be related to any HR topic including salary negotiations, performance management,
privacy of data, recruitment and selection, employee relations, employee compensation and benefits
and religion at work. Students will have to identify the ethical dilemma involved in the given case.
Think about the possible set of alternatives that can be involved and then choose the best course of
action to handle the given situation.
