In the Serbian language, we have two pronouns for „you“ , like in French, Italian, Castilian Spanish,
Greek, German and many other languages:
1) ti, that is used for you singular, when addressing one person directly, and
2) vi used for you plural, as in 'you all', when addressing more then one person directly.
This plural form vi is also used when speaking to one person in a polite and formal way. In business
correspondence, this pronoun Vi is usually capitalized to show respect.
The other words are also used so that they correspond to the 'ti' or 'vi' way of speaking, like in the
table below. If you're speaking to one person informally, choose the left column. If you're speaking
to two or more people, or if you're trying to be polite or keep distance, use the right column.
We're expected to use Vi with our superiors, teachers, with our friends' parents, with merchants,
clerks and strangers, until we're instructed otherwise, with the words: 'Možemo na ti' (we can switch
to informal) or: 'Nema potrebe da mi persiraš' (there's no need to speak formal to me).

A fun fact: persirati is a verb that means 'to speak formally'. It comes from the German expression
'per Sie' – to speak using Sie (she), which is how one speaks formally in German and Italian.
