Introduction:
Electric current is one of the fundamental quantities in electricity. In simple circuits, the brightness
of the bulbs is an identification of the value of
the current.
However, an ammeter is a much more reliable
way as it measures the current. A multimeter
(that is a device that can act as ammeter,
voltmeter,) offers a convenient and cheap
way to measure a range of important
electrical quantities such as current, voltage.
A series circuit is an electrical circuit in
which components are connected in a line,
one after the other, whereas a parallel circuit
is an electrical circuit in which each the
main battery current is distributed into
multiple branches. Each component has its Figure 1 shows a parallel circuit
own separate branch.
Procedure:
Set up the circuit, with 2 dry cells (1.5V) or 3 volts power supply, and 2 bulbs
This is a parallel circuit - there are ‘branches’ in the circuit, and a number of ways for current to
flow around it.
Measure the current at the points shown in the circuit diagram and record them in the table given.

Questions:
Can you spot the difference in the flow of the electric current between series and parallel
circuits?

Check whether the bulbs can work independently in series and parallel circuits. Suggest the type
of circuits that is used in your classroom.

Sam suggested that series circuits, you can turn on/off bulbs separately. Combine knowledge
understanding and skills to comment whether Sam’s suggestion is true or not.
