If we observe the below figure carefully, we would see that if we count the number of triangles in ABC and
multiply it by three, then we would get the number of triangles in ABC, BHI, and CGI.
The number of triangles in ABC = ACD, ADE, AEF, ABF, ACE, ADF, AEB, ACF, ADB, ABC
Total triangles = 30 + 2
Total triangles = 32

Answer: 1
Solution:
Now after adding a triangle inside it, we will get other 4 more triangles.
Now we draw three lines on smaller triangle from the vertices of the larger triangle, we get other 6 triangles (2
triangles on each side of smaller triangle) as follows.
1. 26
2. 48
3. 50
4. 38
Answer: 2
Solution:
Total triangles = n (n + 2) (2n + 1) 8
In given figure n = 5
Then,
Total triangles = 5 (5 + 2) (2 5 + 1) 8
Total triangles = 48

Calculate the number of squares from the following figure.
Solution:

For equal number of rows and columns-
1) 32
2) 30
3) 34
4) 26
Answer: 2
Solution:
If figure is symmetric, means no. of rows is equal to no. of columns. Then simply we numbered boxes as 1, 2,
3, 4 as rows and columns as well,
Solution:
Memory Tip
If figure is asymmetric, means no. of rows is not equal to no. of columns. Then simply we numbered
boxes as 1, 2, 3, 4… as rows and columns. Then we find the product of the last column box to last row
box, 6*4 = 24 and then implies this with one less value in rows and columns as well.
i.e. 3 × 2 = 6
2×1=2
The we do adding = 6 + 2 = 8
1) 45 2) 60 3) 55 4) 50
Answer: 4
Solution:
If figure is asymmetric, means no. of rows is not equal to no. of columns. Then simply we numbered boxes as
1, 2, 3, 4… as rows and columns. Then we find
product of the last column box to last row box, 6*4 = 24 and then implies this with one less value in rows and
columns as well.
6*4 = 24
5*3 = 15
4*2 = 08
3*1 = 03
1) 15
2) 20
3) 25
4) 30
Answer: 2
Solution:
If we draw a square with plus sign then we get total 5 squares. There are total 4 such squares. So, Total no. of
squares = 5*4 = 20
1) 20
2) 18
3) 17
4) 24
Answer: b
Solution:
For symmetric figure there is total 1^2 + 2^2 + 3^2 = 14 squares. Then, 4 squares are at the corners. So, total
no. of squares = 14 + 4 = 18
Rectangles
How many rectangles are there in the given figure?
Solution:
1) 100
2) 195
3) 225
4) 120
Answer: 3
Solution:
If figure is asymmetric, means no. of rows is not equal to no. of columns. Then simply we numbered boxes as
1, 2, 3, 4… as rows and columns. Then we find
1) 25
2) 80
3) 90
4) 95
Answer: 3
Solution :
If figure is asymmetric, means no. of rows is not equal to no. of columns. Then simply we numbered boxes as
1, 2, 3 as rows and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, as columns.
Then we add row box numbers and column box numbers individually, then multiply the sum of those. After
adding row numbers we get, 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 and adding columns we get, 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15
1) 17
2) 20
3) 18
4) 19
Correct answer: 4
Solution:
We numbered this figure boxes as 1, 2, 3, and 4 considering common row as 1, then we simply add them we
get, 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10 from both the sides. And one rectangle counted twice so we subtract it. So total no. of
rectangles = 10 + 10 – 1 = 19.
Points to Remember
All squares are counted as rectangles
1. 31
2. 30
3. 28
4. 32
Answer: 2
Solution:
Total triangles = (1 + 2 + 3 + ----- + n) × Total number of horizontal lines
Here, n = Total number of small triangles
In triangle ABC,
In triangle, CDE
Similarly,
Total triangle in triangle HGC = 3
And, another Two triangles are triangle JLB and triangle IKB is made
1. 35
2. 36
3. 34
4. 33
Answer: 1
Solution:
Total triangles = (1 + 2 + 3 + ... + n) × Total number of horizontal lines
Here, n = Total number of small triangles
In triangle ABC,
1. 29
2. 32
3. 31
4. 27
Answer: 3
Solution:
In triangle DIC,
Total triangle = n × 2
Here, n = Total number of small triangles
Then,
Total triangles = (1 + 2 + 3) × 1
Total triangles = 6 × 1
Total triangles in triangle HIE = 6
And, Four other triangles (ABC, DEF, HDE, and BGC) are made.
Now add all the triangles,
Total triangles = DIC + ABD + CEF + BGI + HIE + ABC + DEF + HDE + BGC
Total triangles = 12 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1
Total triangles = 31
Hence, 31 is the correct answer.

What is the minimum number of different colours required to paint the figure given above such that no two
adjacent regions have the same colour ?
1. 3
2. 4
3. 5
4. 6
Answer: 3
Solution:
AS shown in the figure above minimum three colours C1, C2 and C3 are required to paint the figure given
above such that no two adjacent regions have the same colour.
Hence, 3 is the correct answer.
Q) Count the number of squares in the given figure?
1. 25
2. 26
3. 23
4. 27
Answer: 1
Solution:
If,
Number of Row is not equals to Number of Column (R ≠ C).
Then,
Total Squares = R × C + (R – 1) (C – 1) + (R – 2) (C – 2) + - - - - - - - - - - - - + (R – n) (C – n)
Here, R = Number of Rows and C = Number of Column.
And,
If,
Number of Row equals to Number of Column (R = C).
Then,
Total squares = 12 + 22 + 32 + 42 + - - - - - - - - - - n2
Here, n = Total number of column.
In ABCD,
In given question,
Number of Row (R) = 6
Number of Column (C) = 2
Total squares = 6 × 2 + (6 – 1) (2 – 1) + (6 – 2) (2 – 2)
Total squares = 6 × 2 + 5 × 1 + 4 × 0
Total squares = 12 + 5 + 0
Total squares in ABCD = 17
