Derivatives of Exponential Functions

If y=f(x)=ex , where x is a differentiable function, then y1 = ex dx


If y=f(x)=ax , where x is a differentiable function, then y1 = ax lna. dx

Examples

1.Find the derivative of, y = e2x


y1 = e2x .2 chain rule (derivative of 2x)
= 2e2x

2. Find the derivative of, y = e3+cos 4x


y1 = e3+cos 4x (-sin4x.4) chain rule (derivative of 3+cos 4x)
y1 = -4sin4xe3+cos 4x

3. Find the derivative of, y = 𝑒 −𝑥 +3x−4

y1 = 𝑒 −𝑥 +3x−4 .(-2x+3) chain rule ( derivative of −𝑥 2 + 3x − 4)

4. Find the derivative of y = 42x


y1 = 42x ln4. (2) chain rule (derivative of 2x)
y1 =2 ln4 42x

5. Find the derivative of y = -3(2x-4)


y1 = -3(2x-4) ln-3. (2) chain rule (derivative of 2x-4)
y1 = 2ln(-3)(-3(2x-4))

6. Find the derivative of y = 5tanx


y1 = 5tanx ln5 (sec2 x) chain rule (derivative of tanx)
y1 =(sec2 x)ln5( 5tanx)
