ABSTRACT

Student absenteeism is a perennial problem of all teachers. Every curriculum

year, it is one of the problems that they have to contend to. It is not only the teachers

who are concerned with this problem but the school administrators as well.

This research examined the causes of absenteeism among the Grade 7 students

of Sapang Dalaga National High School, Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental during the

school year 2024-2025. These students were identified by the teacher-advisers that

have incurred absences more than ten occurrences in their previous grade level. This

was taken from the data contained in the report card of daily attendance by the

teachers. Now that they are in Grade 7, some of them are still frequent absentees. It is

for this reason that this research was undertaken. It has the end view of understanding

and correcting such undesirable behavior. Based on the findings, methods and

strategies were recommended to help minimize, if absenteeism cannot be eradicated

totally.

Abstract
Student absenteeism is a perennial problem of all teachers. Every curriculum

year, it is one of the problems that they have to contend to. It is not only the teachers

who are concerned with this problem but the school administrators as well.

This action research examined the causes of absenteeism of the Grade 7 students

of Sapang Dalaga National High School for the school year 2024-2025. When they were

in third year, they were the class which has the most number of absentees everyday.

This was gathered from the data contained in the daily attendance record being passed

around and kept by the adviser everyday and is regularly filled up by the teachers in

each year level for the whole year. Now that they are in senior years, some of them are

still frequent absentees. It is for this reason that this research was undertaken. It has the

end in view of understanding and correcting such undesirable student behavior. Based

on the findings, methods/strategies were recommended to minimize, if not eradicate

absenteeism or truancy.
