Title: Electromagnetic Wave Scavenger Hunt

Objective:

 Identify and describe different types of electromagnetic waves in everyday life.

 Explain the uses and effects of electromagnetic waves in various applications.

Instructions:

1. Find Examples – Look around your home, school, or community and identify at

least five (5) different electromagnetic waves (e.g., radio waves, microwaves,

infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, gamma rays).

2. Document Your Findings – For each type of wave, answer the following:

o Name of the wave: (e.g., Infrared)

o Where you found it: (e.g., Remote control, thermal cameras)

o Use or function: (e.g., Used in remote controls to send signals to the TV)

o Possible effects or risks: (e.g., Can cause burns with prolonged

exposure)

3. Create a Summary Table – Organize your findings in a table format like the one

below:

Electromagnetic Where Use/Function Possible Effects/Risks

Wave Found

Radio Waves FM Radio Transmits audio No known harmful effects

signals

Microwaves Microwave Heats food quickly Can cause burns with

oven direct exposure

… … … …

4. Reflection Question:

o How do electromagnetic waves impact your daily life? Write a short

paragraph (3-5 sentences) discussing their importance and potential risks.

Output: Submit your completed table and reflection as a handwritten or digital

document.

Rubric:

 Identification of Waves (5 points) – Correctly identifies five types of EM waves.

 Accuracy of Information (5 points) – Provides correct descriptions and

examples.

 Organization & Clarity (5 points) – Presents information neatly and clearly in

the table.

 Reflection (5 points) – Thoughtfully explains the impact of EM waves.

Total: 20 points
