Oil volume in DSG 7.

How to change
the oil in a DSG box. What kind of oil
to fill
To replace the oil in the DSG 7, we only need a container for working out 5-6 liters,
a standard set of tools, a filling syringe and a tube with a diameter of 7-8 mm.
What is nice is that during the replacement, we don’t have to pump anything,
squeeze anything, the work is almost the same as with the usual manual
transmission, except for a few nuances.

And yet, when replacing, we will not remove either the starter, or the battery, or
the battery pad. The only thing that will need to be dismantled is engine
protection. But the child will cope with this. If everything is ready, we can begin the
replacement:

1. After removing the protection, thoroughly clean the Mechatronic unit

from dirt.
2. Hexagon 5 turn off the drain plug.

3. We substitute the container (about a liter) under the Mechatronic unit.

4. We drain all the liquid from the control unit.
5. We twist the drain plug into place.
6. Now we clean the drain plug already on the gearbox.

7. We unscrew the cork by 10 hexagon, substituting a capacity of about two

liters.
8. Wait until all the oil drains from the gearbox.

9. We measure the amount of drained oil, since no control hole is provided.

10. We twist the gearbox oil drain plug.
11. Now pour oil into the Mechatronic control unit.

12. Remove the plastic breather on the control unit from under the hood. He
is near the starter.
13. To do this, use the key at 16. We substitute the key under the breather
and as a lever we take it out of the hole.
14. We put a hose with a diameter of 8 mm on the fitting of the breather,
pour a liter of oil G004 000 M2 into the syringe and smoothly pump the
oil into the mechatronic.
15. If there is no refueling syringe, you can use a 150-cc medical syringe or
any other device. Put the breather in place.
16. Now fill the oil in the gearbox. We will do this also through the opening of
the breather. To make it easier to get to it, we transfer the gearbox
control selector to the Parking mode.
17. Hand remove the plastic breather.
18. We put the same 8-mm hose on the breather fitting, fill the syringe with
exactly the same amount of oil as we drained and pump it into the
gearbox. After that, put the breather in place.
Thus, you can quickly change the oil in the DSG7 gearbox and Mechatronic control
unit on the Skoda Octavia A7. Good luck to everyone and reliable gearboxes!
DSG7 Transmission (Direct Shift Gearbox - Direct Shift Gearbox) This is an
automatic transmission of this type with “dry” clutches, which was developed by
VW, which has seven gears and a reverse gear. Switchings occur without
interrupting the power flow (switching occurs without turning on the neutral), this
is the main advantage of Automatic Transmissions, and a “creeping” mode at the
beginning of movement is also provided. Therefore, DSG boxes are automatic
transmissions.

The flagship in the production of “dry” clutches is VW, they immediately took into
account the design flaw of the DSG6 for shifting forward and reverse gears with
one clutch, and released a seven-speed gearbox, where forward and reverse gears
include different rows.

DSG7s are mainly equipped in cars with a small engine capacity; on powerful
engines with high torque, “dry” clutches do not withstand. DSG7 are equipped with
mainly Volkswagen, Skoda, as well as Audi, Seat.

Car models where you can meet the DSG7

box
A feature of the DSG7 is the presence of two volumes of oil, for mechatronics which
controls the DSG7 and a mechanical gearbox (where the forks, gears, etc.). If on a
conventional mechanical gearbox the clutch is clamped by the design springs
installed during manufacture, and when you press the clutch pedal, the clutch
“dissolves” and the moment is not transmitted, then in DSG7 the opposite happens
until the mechatronics gives the clutch signal “disbanded” they rotate freely , the
mechatronics gives a signal, and the piston acts on the plug and the plug clamps
the disc, and if there are no pressure leaks in the mechatronics, the disc is
clamped with the necessary force.

In diagnostic tools, there is a temperature value of the first and second friction
disc, the temperature is calculated, i.e. how the clutch slipped, how much time,
what time was on the engine or what pressure was in mechatronics, based on
these readings, the adhesion temperature is calculated - this is the unmeasured
temperature - this is the calculated temperature. If the calculated temperature
starts to rise, the clutch starts to slip excessively and further repairs of the DSG7
box will be required.

Ford, Mercedes, Fiat have developed their DSG boxes with dry clutches. Ford
refused hydraulics by installing electric motors, which are controlled by an
electronic unit combined with electric motors mounted on the box. Adaptation of
the Ford DSG7 after replacing the electronic unit or dual clutch is carried out
automatically, unlike VW where the adaptation procedure is required to be carried
out with special equipment.

The clutch in this box is a separate non-separable (improperly repaired) unit. When
replacing the clutch, the DSG7 is supplied by the manufacturer as an assembly,
with disc spacings adjusted between them.

Classic problems with DSG7

Manifestation of defects in the operation of the DSG7, often associated with
improper operation of mechatronics

 There is no gear forward and reverse

 Gear jerks.
After the diagnosis, repair of the mechatronics DSG7 or its reprogramming is
required. The reasons may be pressure leaks in the internal cavities, or the
incorrect operation of the gear shifting software. Which leads to slip clutch.
Reprogramming the DSG7 is also required for software updates and optimized box
performance.

The mechatronics unit may overheat in vehicle driving modes (providing a

creeping mode) and, as a consequence, slip clutch discs, and later repair the
DSG7, which is an operational defect in the operation of the DSG7. The
manufacturer recommended actions for DSG7 owners to force the box to switch
from mode “D” to mode “N” when the car is in traffic and costs more than 1
minute. VW developers did not count on the Russian features of the DSG7
operating conditions (many hours, regular traffic in traffic jams).
Also, the DSG7 mechatronics breakdown is a leak of oil from the “breather”;
replacement or repair is required. If electrical circuits fail inside the unit, the
mechatronics DSG7 assembly is replaced.

Care must be taken to protect the exposed parts of the DSG7 from contamination.
Failure of “dry” discs is possible for various reasons: Oil clutch (for example, due to
leakage of the crankshaft oil seal), water, clogging of the clutch with dirt, etc. is a
problem with the DSG7 dry clutch gearbox.

The mechanical part of the DSG7 with large runs is characterized by breakdowns of
conventional mechanical gearboxes - breakage of the gear transmission, pitting of
bearings, shafts, destruction of drive forks, etc. Then a thorough repair of the
mechanical part of the box is required.

Replacing DSG6 with DSG7 is not possible, because gears are aggregated with
different engines.

In 2011 in the production of DSG7, individual components were modified,

improvements were made, installation dimensions for clutches were changed, the
release lever drive lever was changed.

DSG7 car owners face automatic gearbox problems

 jolts when shifting the gear forward or backward,

 impact shocks,
 automatic transmission vibration
 slippage on shifts,
 the car includes emergency operation.
The average operational mileage of a car with a DSG7 is 90-150 thousand km.
Clutch repair and replacement is carried out using a special tool. Repairing the
DSG7 requires strict observance of the assembly and adjustment technology in
accordance with the requirements of the manufacturer.

Changing the oil in the DSG7 box is only possible in the gearbox. Replacement can
be done on average after 40 thousand mileage or as needed, because the
manufacturer pours oil for the entire service life.
Released software updates are an advantage of the DSG7. At the first signs of the
DSG7 not working properly, you should start with diagnostics and, if necessary,
perform a “flashing” of mechatronics if they have been issued by the manufacturer
for your car, but we do not recommend “reflashing” a normally working DSG7.

Diagnostics and advice on the DSG7 box

ATG service engineers provide technical support in the form of consultations on
technical issues related to the repair and operation of DSG7. You can get
operational advice by calling or sending a request from the company’s website

When diagnosing DSG7, it is possible to check many parameters of operation,

consider them specialized test devices. Decryption and analysis of the received
codes of the box allows you to find the cause of the malfunction of the automatic
transmission and prevents damage to the DSG7 by timely detection of defects.
One of the points of the DSG7 diagnostics is to monitor the clutch temperature in
operating conditions. Clutch wear can be viewed programmatically.

It is possible to check for leaks and oil changes in the ATG service center and is a
necessary procedure aimed at maintaining the automatic gearbox in a good
technical condition in order to increase its uptime.

ATG has special tools and equipment and can carry out all restoration work. We
have experience in competent, qualified service and repair of DSG7 automatic
transmission in Moscow.

Looking at the table, you can draw some simple conclusions:

1. DSG c "dry" clutches, as a rule, are installed on less powerful engines, because
able to "digest" a smaller moment.
2. If you have four-wheel drive, then you have wet clutch.
3. If you have a DSG and a motor along, then you have an Audi :-)
4. Apparently, the century of the legendary all-wheel drive Audi Quattro with the
famous Torsen differential is drawing to a close.
Question 002:
Q: How to find out which box is installed on my car?
A: Option 1: Connect the diagnostic tool to the car, go to block 02 - Gearbox
electronics and read the identification data. The first three characters of the box
identifiers and mechatronics indicate your box.
For example: 0AM 300049H - seven-speed DSG with dry clutch type 0AM. Or 02E
300051R - a six-speed DSG with wet clutch type 02E, etc.
Option 2: Look at the VIN code of the car in the electronic spare parts catalog
ETKA.
Option 3: Send the VIN code of the car to our address, we will check and send you
an answer.

Question 003:
Q: How is the S-tronic for Audi different from the DSG for Volkswagen / Skoda /
Seat?
A:Nothing. With the exception of boxes 0B5, 0CK / 0CL and 0СJ which are installed
only on audi.

Question 005:
Q:What is mechatronics?
A:Mechatronic (mechatronik, mechatronic, valve body, brain) - electronic-hydraulic
control unit KP. Perhaps the most important, but at the same time the most
unreliable unit in the entire transmission.
Question 006:
Q:What is the difference between mechatronics?
A:Each type of DSG has its own type of mechatronics. Mechatronics from various
types of DSG are not interchangeable. Moreover, for some types of DSG there are
several generations of mechatronics that also differ from each other. And for each
type and generation of mechatronics, there are many versions of software
designed for different engines and different gear ratios in the gearbox. In some
cases, mechatronics of the same type can be reprogrammed (reflash) for
installation on different cars. You can read more about the firmware.

Question 007:
Q:Which DSG is better / more reliable?
A:There is no single answer to this question. Each type of DSG has its advantages
and disadvantages. And the duration of the "life" of any DSG for the most part
depends on the conditions of its operation, such as:
- Ambient temperature. All DSGs do not like overheating, especially for dry-clutch
DSGs, in which the mechatronic has a separate oil circuit and there is no cooling;
- Driving mode. Those who spend several hours in traffic jams every day have more
chances to come to replace mechatronics than those who mainly drive long
distances on the highway;
- Driving style. Fans of the “give the corner” and “light at the traffic light”, the
probability of getting to replace the clutch and differential is much higher than
those who prefer a quiet ride.

Question 008:
Q: I have a DSG7 0AM.Do I need to switch the selector to neutral when standing at
a traffic light or in traffic?
A: Not necessary.Unlike conventional mechanical transmissions, in the DSG7 0AM
the clutch is normally open. And it closes only when the mechatronic begins to
push the clutch release rods. When you (or auto hold) hold the car in place by
pressing the brake, the mechatronics clutch rods are removed and the clutch is
open. Accordingly, no load on the gearbox or clutch is transmitted. What position
the selector knob is in is not important.

Question 009:
Q: Over time, there were jerks when shifting gears. Previously, the car drove
normally, switching was smooth, but recently there were jerks and bumps when
shifting gears. Can this be fixed by reprogramming the ECU boxes (software
update)?
A: No, you can’t. The software cannot "deteriorate" over time and cause the CP to
work improperly. If the car previously drove correctly, and then stopped, then the
problem lies in the hardware, and not in the software.
Reprogramming mechatronics can only help if you have changed the mechatronics
and installed the unit with the wrong software. You can read more about
reprogramming.

Question 010:
Q:How to find out the software version in mechatronics?
Question 011:
Q: The DSG7 gear knob is locked in position P, how to unlock it in order to shiftbox
to neutral?
A: Brief instructions on unlocking the DSG7 0AM selector.

Question 012:
Q: Will replacing the oil in the mechatronics DSG7 0AM (0CW) help remove “kicks”
in gear changes?
A: No, it will not help. Such malfunctions are eliminated by repairing the hydraulic
part of the mechatronics. In the initial stages, adaptation (basic installation) can
help, but rather as an exception than a rule.

Question 014:
Q: After replacing the mechatronics DSG7 0AM, the errors "06247 P1867 - Data bus
Drive missing messages from the steering column electronics - J527" and "06227
P1853 Data bus Drive incorrect message from the ABS control unit" hang in the
event logger. How to remove them?
A:It is necessary to reset the information about the installed components (shift
paddles, electric parking brake, etc.). To do this, you need to make a basic
installation on channel 69. After completing the basic installation, errors will go
from the "permanent" state to the "sporadic" state and they can be deleted.

When using VCDS software (VAG-COM, Vasya-Diagnost, etc.):

"02-KP Electronics" -> "Basic parameters - 04" -> In the "Group" field,
enter the value 69 -> Press "Read".

When using softwareVAS-PC:

"Self-diagnosis" ->"02-Electronics KP" -> "006-Basic installation"->
In the "Group" field, enter the value 69 -> Press "Q".

When using softwareODIS:

"Self-diagnosis" ->"02-Electronics KP" ->"Basic installation" -\
u003eEnter the value 69 -> Press "Channel selection".

After the basic installation, the event logger should be cleaned.

Question 015:
Q:Structurally, the DSG7 0AM and DSG7 0CW are almost the same transmissions
(DQ200 family), is there any difference between the mechatronics installed on
them?
A:The main difference is the physical and software changes of the electronic
control board. In particular, 0CW boards are linked to the car immobilizer system.
You can read more about the differences in mechatronics 0AM and 0CW.

How to make an oil change, we spied on AlexanderWillillis from Drive2.ru.

Everything is clearly explained and shown in him. A couple of add-ons from us. If
you have never removed the air filter housing, then specify in advance how this is
done. On 1.8 TSI, to remove it, you need to carefully pull it up, because it sits
tightly on two landing pins of the battery platform, and rubber dampers are in the
holes of the filter housing. And one moment. We poured 1.7 liters of used oil from
the DSG7 box, and poured all 2 liters.

The oil change in the DSG-7 was made at a mileage of 76,000 km. What made us
do this? Doubts! Doubts are that in the constantly contacting parts of the gearbox,
the technical fluid can work out the entire life of the car and maintain its
operational characteristics. 2 warranty years - yes, gear oil can work. So what is
next? And if the machine is used for 5-7 years? We believe not. Gearbox oil is not
able to work without losing its physical and chemical characteristics for such a long
time. Therefore, they made a replacement. The result of the work is below.

According to subjective feelings, we did the oil change procedure not in vain. The
box began to switch very softly, barely noticeable.

19.07.2016 After changing the oil in the gearbox, 4 months passed and 6000 km
were driven. There were no problems during this time: smudges, fogging, and 2
liters of oil were added, and there weren’t. The car accelerated 1 time to 200 km.
in hour.

Our conclusion: the oil in the mechanical part of the DSG-7 must be changed. How
often? We believe that once every 60 thousand km.

The manufacturer himself claims that the DSG robot is highly reliable and a
profitable solution compared to traditional hydromechanical automatic
transmissions or variators. One way or another, it is important to understand that
this box needs regular and high-quality maintenance, taking into account a number
of features of its design.

Under such service should be understood, first of all, the oil change in the DSG, as
well as DSG. Next, we will talk about when the oil in the DSG needs to be changed,
how the oil is replaced in the DSG box, and what to look for as part of this
procedure.

Changing gear oil in a DSG: when and why

So, the gearbox is based on a manual gearbox, as well (by analogy with the
manual transmission). In other words, unlike the “classic” automatic machines or
the variator, there is no torque converter.

At the same time, there are two clutch discs, due to which the gears switch very
quickly and smoothly. The result is a high level of comfort and fuel economy, as
well as an impressive dynamics of acceleration, since there is practically no
rupture of the power flow at the time of switching, etc.

It controls the operation of the box and clutch, as well as (analog). In fact, the
electronic unit sends signals to the actuators, after which, due to the redistribution
of fluid (oil) flows in mechatronics, gears are switched on and other processes are
controlled.

It is quite obvious that the presence of such a device as mechatronic means

increased requirements for the quality and condition of gear oil. In other words, a
timely oil change in the DSG box is necessary.

Immediately, we note that according to the regulations, an oil change in the DSG-6,
as well as often in the DSG-7, is required every 60 thousand km. However, if the
car is operated in severe conditions (trailer towing, aggressive driving, maximum
loads), it is necessary to replace the transmission oil earlier (the interval is reduced
by 20-30 or even 40%).

Please note, the DSG-6 is and can go about 200-250 thousand km. without repair.
At the same time, it is important to understand that the result of an untimely oil
change in the box at the same time as a violation of the operating requirements for
the gearbox is the vast majority of DSG failures.

Also, after carrying out an oil change, most owners note that after a change, for
example, in the DSG-6, shocks disappear when switching, the box works smoothly,
without jerking. Next, we will consider the process of changing the oil in the DSG-6
with our own hands.

How to choose and change oil in DSG

So, in order to change the oil in the DSG, you must first select a special
transmission fluid or oil in the DSG box, which is suitable for units of this type. To
change the oil in a DSG box, such as the DQ-250, you will need 6 liters of gear oil.
Given that such a gearbox with a wet clutch (clutch packs are immersed in an oil
bath), more oil is needed in this case. As for the DSG-7 with the so-called “dry”
clutch, a smaller amount of transmission fluid is required in such a box.

We also note that in addition to the liquid, it is necessary to change the oil filter of
the DSG box, as well as the special sealing ring of the drain plug. As a rule, when
replacing original oils and transmission fluids with VW TL52182 approvals are used.
You can also select suitable third-party analogues.

The main thing is to use high quality products as well. If we talk about the
replacement itself, you can both use the services of specialized service stations,
and perform all the manipulations yourself.

 First of all, in addition to the oil and the gearbox filter, you will need a
garage with a viewing hole or a lift, a set of tools, containers for draining
mining, rags;
 Before starting the replacement, the box must be warmed up by driving
about 10 km by car;
 Next, the machine is placed in a pit or rises on a lift, if available, the
engine protection is removed;
 Then you will need to remove the air intake along with the air filter,
battery with a casing and a pallet;
 Next, a plastic cup is twisted, a filter is removed;
 After you need to remove the breather cap (located closer to the
headlamp from the filter);
 Now you can go down under the car and unscrew the drain plug,
substitute the tank where the mining will merge;
 After unscrewing the plug, a hex key is inserted into the hole, with which
a special insert is twisted. This allows you to drain the maximum amount
of oil;
 After removing the insert, wait until all the oil has merged into the
container;
 At the same time, a new DSG box filter must be soaked with fresh oil. To
do this, you can insert the filter into the cup body and spill it with oil;
 After the oil has completely drained from the gearbox, the insert can be
tightened, but the drain plug does not need to be tightened. If it is
tightened, the oil will be poured into the unit faster;
 To avoid oil leakage, place a container in the area of the
drain hole.
 Now it remains to insert the funnel into the gearbox breather (top under
the hood) and add fresh oil. Pour in slowly and carefully, dosing portions.
We also add that you can fill the oil with other methods (for example, pump it with
a syringe through the drain hole), however, in practice, filling through the breather
is the fastest and most effective. Also, after about 4.5 liters of oil were poured into
the box, you need to tighten the gearbox oil filter cover, replace the breather cap,
install previously removed engine intake system elements, and connect the
terminals to the battery.

At the same time, nothing needs to be tightened or twisted yet. At the same time,
the old gearbox drain plug is installed (we do not install a new one yet, the sealing
rings do not change). Next, the engine must be started by connecting in parallel to
the computer through.

The main task is to wait until the oil warms up in the DSG to 40-48 degrees. After
such heating, the engine does not need to be turned off, and the old drain plug
should be unscrewed. It is important that the oil drips slightly from the hole as a
result of vibrations of the internal combustion engine.

Then you need to wait a while until the excess flows out, that is, the required
amount will remain in the gearbox (the plug-in plug installed in the drain hole will
not allow more lubricant to leak out). Please note that if you do not immediately
drip oil when unscrewing the cork, this indicates that it is not filled enough and you
need to top up.

After the oil stops dripping, this will indicate the desired oil level in the gearbox. In
this case, it is possible to tighten a new plug with an o-ring, as well as turn off the
engine. Now you can start reassembling by tightening all previously removed and
untightened elements. At this oil change can be considered complete.
What is the result
As you can see, although the DSG gearbox is not a “classic” automatic and looks
more like a manual transmission, all the same, the oil change in the DSG should be
done more often and performed regularly.

The reason is the presence of mechatronics and increased sensitivity to

transmission fluid in the gearbox. The regulations of the manufacturer itself also
indicate the need for replacement, that is, such a box can not be considered
officially unattended.

It turns out that owners of DSG-6 car models must take into account that the
transmission service life directly depends on the timely replacement of the oil and
gearbox filter in the transmission. You must also follow certain operating rules
(avoid sudden starts, high loads, slippage, towing a trailer and other cars).

Finally, we note that the oil change in the DSG-6 or DSG-7 box in some cases can
improve the quality of the gearbox itself, get rid of jerks when switching, the car
accelerates better, the transmission is less noisy during operation, does not vibrate
so much, etc. P.
