MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. ¼ “driver: Magna ¼ "(P/N 37033) driver or equivalent.
2. TORK bit # 6 for ¼ “driver or equivalent T6.
3. Green Screwdriver (GS): Xcelite® P3321 flat head
screwdriver or equivalent.
4. Nylon soldering Tool SCC P/N SP3010 (Black Stick).
Motorola P/N SLN7223A or it can be ordered from
HMC Electronics.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Connect a Remote Speaker Mic (RSM) HMN9026C and check for external
audio
Check internal speaker ~ 8 ohms
If audio is heard from the RSM and the internal speaker is good replace
Accessory Jack Connector P/N 0975331B01.
Run a Radio Verification Test.

Step Two: Using a Xcelite screwdriver pn P3321, remove the rear escutcheon (Fig. 1).

Step Three: Remove all 8 screws from the rear housing and remove the rear housing (Fig. 2).

Step Four: Ensure that the battery contacts on the rear housing are not distorted during the
disassembly or assembly process. Check for the proper placement of the three components
indicated in figure 3.

Step Five: Remove the antenna bushing retainer using tool # 6680371B34 (Fig. 4).

Carefully remove the busing housing and bushing connector (Fig. 5).

Step Six: Using a plastic black stick, carefully remove the PCB from the front housing. Place
stick as shown in the photo (Fig. 6).

Step One: Unsnap the LCD retainer from the PCB and lift the board carefully away from the
PCB (Fig. 7).

Step Two: Lift the latch off of the connector and remove the LCD flex (Fig. 8).

Step Three: Carefully remove the Popple Dome array and retain for reassembly (Fig. 9).

Step Four: Remove PCB label and retain for reassembly (Fig. 10).

Step Five: Cover flex connector, Volume up, Volume down, and PTT SMT switch with
Kapton tape (Figs. 11 & 12).

Step Six: Remove the shield shown in the picture with a heat gun or repair machine (Fig. 13).

Step Seven: Remove the external accessory jack with a heat gun or equivalent. Clean out the
through holes with solder wick or other de-solder tool. Once clear clean with alcohol to
remove excess flux (Figs. 14 & 15).

Step Eight: Place jack and re-solder with solder iron (Fig. 16).

Step Nine: Add solder to the shield track, and replace the shield (Figs. 17 & 18).

Step Eleven: Replace Popple dome array and PCB label (Fig. 19).

Step Twelve: Insert LCD Flex into the connector on the PCB and snap connector (Fig. 20).

Step One: Remove Button Bracket, Button and Insert from front cover (Figs. 21 & 22).

Step Two: Using new parts, insert the PTT plunger into the PTT Button. Insert noting the
alignment chamfers as noted in the picture below (Fig. 23).

Step Three: Assemble the PTT Button and Plunger into the front housing as shown in
the photograph shown below (Fig. 24).
Note: Alignment chamfer should be placed toward the front side of the radio.

Step Four: Ensure that the Poron Pads are placed properly on the PTT Button Bracket as
shown in the picture. Then, assemble the Button Bracket to the front cover (Figs. 25 & 26).

RE-ASSEMBLY PROCEEDURE
Step One: Ensure that the PTT button components, key pad, microphone, and lower dust cover
are in place.
Note: Ensure that the internal surface of the lens cover is clear of foreign material.
Step Two: Insert PCB assembly into front housing by inserting the lower connector first.
Then, carefully spread the front cover sides and slowly push PCB into front housing.
Step Three: Connect the antenna bushing connector to the PCB connector, insert antenna
busing housing into front cover housing and replace antenna bushing retainer.
Note: Ensure that antenna bushing connector is connected properly to the PCB connector.
Step Four: Ensure that the rear housing charge contacts are not damaged. Ensure that the PTT
Backer, vibrator elastomer connector, and the bushing connector support are placed properly
on the rear housing (Fig. 3).
Step Five: Mate rear housing to front housing and install 8 screws.
Step Six: Replace rear escutcheon, ensure that the adhesive is placed properly.
Step Eight: Perform a functionality test: Charge, TX, RX, and button test.

1. Attach a battery
2. Power up in Test Mode. Press the Power button and the Volume/Up key at the
same time.
3. “LCD Contrast” Screen will display, verify text is clear, press Skip. (Right
Option Key)
4. “Grey Level” Screen will display, verify that there is no interference from the top
pattern into the bottom pattern. Press “Right Option Key” to continue.
5. “Check All 4 Borders” Screen will display, verify that all borders in the display are
present. press “Home Key” (picture shows Mute Key) to continue
6. Verify the Backlight and the Vibrator is “ON”. Press the Volume/Up key to
continue.

8. Aud Loopback screen will display. Talk into the microphone: “Mic Detect Test
Passed” will display. Press “Right Option Key” to continue.
9. Press Up, Down, Menu, Left Option Key and PTT buttons. As you press each one,
it will disappear on the display.
10. Insert Audio Jack screen, will display. Insert a Remote Speaker Mic (RSM)
HMN9026C “BUTTON” will display in the screen. Press the PTT in the RDM and
check for an audio tone.

11. Generating T AUD LV = 045 screen will display. Press the PTT in the RDM and
check for an audio tone. Screen will display Test Passed.
