Strawberries
Topic: Nature is Full of Surprises
Date: Monday, 6th May

Today we stumbled into something wild in science class � botanical berries are not
what we think.

Apparently, by the plant world�s standards:

?? Bananas are berries.

?? Strawberries are not.

This completely confused me at first, but here's why:

A true berry grows from one flower ovary and has seeds inside.

Bananas fit that perfectly � even though their seeds are tiny.

Strawberries grow from a flower with multiple ovaries and have seeds on the
outside. So... not a berry, even though the word �berry� is in the name!

We also looked at other strange facts in biology:

Pineapples are made of dozens of fused berries.

Tomatoes and kiwis are berries too!

Avocados? Also berries!

?? It made me realize how much we take at face value. Science has its own logic �
and it doesn�t always match our everyday understanding. That�s what makes learning
fun. Nature is full of little secrets, if we stay curious enough to dig them up.
