1 Two objects O1 and O2 travel along the same straight line. Both objects are at point A
at time t = 0. O1 has velocity 2 m/s and acceleration 10 m/s2 . O2 has velocity 4 m/s and
acceleration 5 m/s2 . Find the distance travelled by each object from point A when they meet
each other again. State your answer in meter.

2 A block of mass 1 kg lies on smooth inclined plane. F = 10 N

is applied horizontally as shown. What is the magnitude
√ of net
normal reaction (in Newton, N) on the block? Consider 2 = 1.41

3 A body starts from rest and travels a distance D with uniform acceleration. It then moves with
uniform velocity for a further distance 2D. Finally it comes to rest after moving an additional
distance 5D with uniform deceleration. What is the ratio of maximum velocity to average
velocity during this motion?

4 In a small tank, an iron cube of edge length 5 cm is floating on mercury. Consider density of
Mercury = 13600 kg/m3, and that of Iron = 7.2 g/cm3. Suppose the height of the cube above
mercury level is h1 cm. Now, water is poured in the tank so that it just covers the iron cube.
Suppose the height of the water column is h2 cm. What is h1 + h2 ?
5 A tennis ball is projected at an angle of 30 degree with
respect to vertical from ground. It lands on a 20 m high
platform, which is 38 m away from the point of projection.
The ball lands 2 m away from the edge of the roof as shown.
If the speed with
√ which the ball was projected is u m/s
K(2 3 + 1)
then u2 = . Find K. Use sin 30◦ = 0.5 and

6 As shown in figure, the track consists of 2 sections AB
and BC. Section AB is a quarter section of a circular track
of 1 m radius and is frictionless. A block is released at point
A and slides down without friction until it reaches point B.
After B it moves on a rough horizontal surface, BC and
comes to rest at point C, which is at a distance of 3 m from
B. Find the RECIPROCAL of the coefficient of friction of
section BC.

7 After being hit, a golf ball starts out with a velocity of 40 m/sec. If it reaches a maximum
height of 48.75 m, what is its velocity at that point? State your answer in m/s.

8 The acceleration due to gravity on the moon is only one-sixth that on earth. If the moon and
earth are assumed to have the same density, find the ratio of earth’s radius to moon’s radius.

9 How many kilograms of ice at 0◦ C must be added to 0.6 kg of water at 100◦ C in an insulated
0.1 kg copper container in order to cool the container and its contents to 30◦ C ? The specific
heats of water and copper are 4.2 and 0.39 kJ/kg-K respectively; the heat of fusion of ice is
335 kJ/kg. State your answer in kg.

10 Objects A and B, each of mass 2 kg, are connected by a
light inextensible string. They are constrained to move on a
frictionless ring in a vertical plane as shown in the diagram.
The objects are released from rest at the positions shown.
Find the tension√ (in Newton, N ) in the string just after
release. Take 2 = 1.41
