ECFS1007 Assignment 2 - Teaching Portfolio Website

Objective:

This assignment guides you in creating an effective teaching portfolio website, incorporating essential
components and initiating action research exploration in key educational areas. Your site should be easy
to navigate and maintain a consistent look and feel, aligned with standard guidelines for web design.

1. Purpose of Your Portfolio:

Create an online teaching portfolio showcasing your skills, knowledge, and beliefs in early childhood
education.

2. Teaching Portfolio Website Components:

a. Homepage:

• Design an appealing homepage introducing your website (purpose).


• Include a professional photo and a welcome message.

b. About Me:

• Develop a section featuring your academic background, teaching experience, and relevant
certification.
• Share your passion for teaching and articulate your educational goals.

c. Teaching and Learning Philosophy Statement:

• Articulate beliefs and values about education, learning, and your approach to teaching and
assessment.
• Include personal goals and objectives as an early year’s practitioner.

d. Blog and Teacher’s Charter:

• Develop a blog capturing philosophies of early childhood practitioners and theorists.


• Include a condensed Teacher’s Charter outlining commitments derived from your teaching
philosophy.

e. Reflection
• Thoughtfully reflect on your journey from the beginning of this course and your practicum
experience, detailing impactful learning moments, assessing growth, acknowledging successes
and challenges faced, overcome and how these challenges fostered growth and improvement,
insights gained.
• Highlight the key lessons that helped to shape your teaching practice.
• Candidly evaluate how the experience shaped your teaching philosophy and identity.

f. Resources
• Share impactful literature, quotes, or articles shaping your teaching philosophy.
• Include inspirational words resonating with your educational approach.
• Add a meaningful photo capturing a significant moment in your educational journey.
g. Action Research Exploration
• Identify key issues for potential action research for Classroom Physical Environment, Classroom,
Management, and Human/Child Rights and Policies.

h. Classroom Physical Environment


• Create a floor plan to observe early years practitioners' physical organization strategies.
• Provide background on the Early Childhood Centre used for the practicum.
• Share observations of daily routines, best practices, challenges, and examples of innovative
teaching methods or family interactions.

i. Classroom Management
• Write an observation report on classroom management strategies.
• Include a sample activity plan.

j. Parent Information on Human/Child Rights and Policies


• Design a visual aid illustrating the Rights-Based Approach (RBA).
• Write a note to parents about their role in safeguarding children.

3. Design and Layout, Multimedia Integration

• Pay attention to overall design for user-friendliness and visual appeal.


• Use consistent color schemes and fonts.
• Ensure website functionality on various devices.
• Integrate multimedia elements such as images, videos, and audio to enhance the presentation.

Completed Teaching Portfolio
Submit the URL of your completed teaching portfolio website in the Assignment Dropbox by the due
date on April 16, 2025 @ 11:59.
Peer Review

• The review process includes peer review of the website "shell” and peer review of the complete
teaching portfolio website (5%).
• This will be done in pairs in an area set up in the LE under the “Course Discussions Tab” labelled
“Teaching Portfolio URL and Peer Reviews”.
• The Peer Review Form can be found in the Facilitator-Student Exchange under the heading “Peer
Review Form”.
• Your teaching portfolio “shell” must be posted by Sunday 16 March 2025.
• The (first) review of the “shell” must be posted by Tuesday 18 March 2025.
• The (final) review of the completed teaching portfolio must be posted by Wednesday 16 April
2025.
