Gentlelase: Calport Calibration Procedure

The document outlines the calibration procedure for the GentleLASE Calport used in GL and GL LE systems, detailing steps for voltage measurement, adjustments, and error calculations. It specifies the required settings for different spot sizes and emphasizes the importance of maintaining specific pulse rates and voltage levels during calibration. The procedure concludes with guidelines for acceptable error margins and instructions for further adjustments if necessary.

CALPORT CALIBRATION

NOTE: Do not pulse more than 100 times continuously into the Cal Port. A clean window
MUST be installed onto the end of the HP Slider or Fiber before calibrating. This procedure
can be used for GL and GL LE systems.

1. Install the delivery system. Turn off the DCD from the front panel.

2. For GL systems, set the handpiece for 10 mm spot size. For GL LE systems, use
the 10 mm or 12 mm fiber.

3. Measure the voltage at TP20 (+) and TP10 (-) on the CPU/Laser I/O board with a
DVM. It must be between -0.005 VDC and +0.005 VDC.
If not, adjust R136 CALPORT LOW. Remove DVM and test leads.

4. Enter READY and pulse into the energy meter, 6” away.

Adjust the voltage until 49 - 50 J is measured. Record this voltage for future
reference.

5. Install the handpiece into the Calport. Pulse into the Calport no faster than 1 pulse
every 3 seconds.
For a 10 mm fiber or spot size, adjust R175 CALPORT HIGH until the CP value on
the terminal is 63 - 64 J/cm2.
For a 12 mm fiber, adjust R175 CALPORT HIGH until the CP value on the terminal
is 43 - 44 J/cm2.

6. Set the reference voltage for 0 V in maintenance. Pulse the laser twice, ignoring the
first pulse. The CP value on the terminal must be 0.0. Set the voltage for 100 V and
pulse 5 times. The CP value must be no greater than 0.4.

7. Set the voltage back to the voltage in step 4. Verify calibration by pulsing 5 times
into the external OPHIR meter and 5 times into the Calport (1/3 Hz or slower),
recording the readings in the following table and performing the calculations to
determine the calibration error.

9. For the 10 mm fiber or spot size:
External Fluence = External meter average x 1.27 = _______________ J/cm2
For the 12 mm fiber:
External Fluence = External meter average x 0.88 = _______________ J/cm2

10. % error = [(Calport average / external fluence) - 1] x 100 = ____________%

11. The error should be ±2%. If not, readjust R175 CALPORT HIGH and repeat.

12. For GL LE systems stop here. For GL systems continue to step 13.

13. Adjust the handpiece for the 12 mm spot size and pulse 5 times at 1/3 Hz or less
(voltage still at the Step 4 value). Record the readings in the following table. Adjust
the handpiece to the 8 mm spot and repeat. Adjust the handpiece to the 15 mm
spot and repeat. Using the external meter average from the previous step, do the
calculations as shown to determine the % errors.

12 mm:

8 mm:

External Fluence = External meter average x 1.87 = _______________ J/cm2

% error = [(Calport average / external fluence) - 1] x 100 = ____________%

15 mm:

External Fluence = External meter average x 0.594 = _______________ J/cm2

% error = [(Calport average / external fluence) - 1] x 100 = ____________%

The errors should be ± 14% or less. If not, contact Service Support.

14. Adjust the handpiece to 12 mm and adjust the voltage until 9 - 11 J/cm2 is read at
the Calport. Be sure to ignore the first pulse after each adjustment, and be sure to
pulse no faster than 1/3 Hz. When the desired voltage is achieved, record it below,
pulse 5 times into the Calport (1/3 Hz) and 5 times into the external meter, recording
the readings in the following table and doing the calculations shown for the error.
