R.C Make Up Rings, Heavy Duty Ductile Iron Manhole Frame and Cover.

 Handling of Materials
Handling and transporting of materials shall be carried out by dump truck, backhoe and other
appropriate machinery to ensure the material is in good quality.

 Receiving of Materials
All the material shall be confirmed to follow the construction drawing with relevant material
specifications before ordering. When receiving, it must be same as ordered and the quality must
be checked in order to prevent defects.

 Inspection of Materials
Site supervisor from contractor and consultant representative shall conduct inspections, check
color code, material certificates or manufacturer’s test reports (including size, thickness,
quantity)

 Storing of Materials
Material shall be stored at defined locations based on material classification. No material is
allowed to rest or store directly on ground at all times.

 Transferring of Materials
The material should be ensured to be secured properly so that it does not fall, roll or move when
transferring it using the backhoe for trench.

 Material Emplacement
The materials are carried by the backhoe to be placed alongside the trench in manner. The
workers will then tie up the material using lifting cable to the backhoe in order to place in the

8.0 PROPOSED METHODOLOGY FOR SEWERAGE WORK

8.1 SEWER TRENCH

1. Site clearance will be carried out on site prior to construction of sewerage works.
2. Alignment of sewer main is surveyed and pegged out prior to commencement of works.
3. Construction works commence from downstream manhole upwards to avoid ponding of
water.
4. Provide warning signs near excavated trench and properly barricade around the trench with
warning tapes.
5. Excavation with hydraulic excavator for sewer trench is carried out until the proposed level
to construct bedding accordingly and lay the sewer pipe.
6. For deep excavation and / or areas with unsuitable materials, temporary shoring to be
provided with steel plates or sheet piles and safety measures will be taken at surrounding
works. Dewatering and water pumping will be required for high water level or after raining
period.
7. For Class A Bedding, granular with 0.25 O. D for pipes 600mm DIA. and above or 150mm
for pipes below 600mm Dia (subject to 400mm maximum) will be placed and compacted
and ensure a levelled surface for laying of pipe later.
8. For Class B Bedding, crusher run with depth of 0.25 O. D for pipes 600mm DIA. and above
or 150mm for pipes below 600mm Dia (subject to 400mm maximum) will be laid and
compacted and ensure a levelled surface for laying of pipe later.
9. Sewer pipes will be laid to correct level and gradient according to construction drawings.
Ensure the slip joints in between pipe are clean and connect in due care to prevent the rubber
ring damaged or flipped.
10. For Class A bedding, the side formworks are then erected, and grade 25 concrete is casted
up to min. 100mm and above from Pipe Outer Diameter.
11. For Class B bedding, the trench is then backfilled using stockpiled or imported suitable
material to original ground level and compacted carefully.
12. Works proceed to next stretch of pipe.

8.2 SEWER MANHOLE

1. Prior to sewer manhole construction, pre-casting of R.C. base slab for the sewer manhole
is carried out at casting yard with details as per construction drawing.
2. R.C slab is proposed to be used to expedite works. Precast sections of 1.2m length with
starter bars protruding at both ends are then transported to site and laid alongside the
designated manhole location. The gaps between them will be casted with in-situ concrete.
3. Excavation with hydraulic excavator for sewer manhole is carried out until the correct
levels. 50mm thick blinding concrete is laid to provide platform to seat precast slabs.
4. Concrete base will be construct on top of the blinding concrete using concrete G15/20 with
2 layers of BRC A6. Top level of concrete slab will be checked to ensure it was laid to
correct level.
5. Precast R.C. sewer manhole chamber ring will be placed on the concrete slab to the correct
height and completed with a concrete taper top.
6. Precast R.C. make up ring will be placed as required to match the top of manhole cover to
finished surface level.
7. Circular steel mould will be fixed to the laid sewer manhole.
8. Concrete grade 25 using sulphate resistant cement will be placed into the steel mould to
form 150mm thick concrete surround.
9. The steel mould will be removed after the concrete is sufficiently cured.
10.The precast channel inside the manhole will be laid and finishing with proper concrete
benching.
11.The sides of the sewer manhole will be backfilled with stockpiled or imported suitable
material and compacted carefully.
12.Ductile Iron Manhole Frame and Cover will be installed to IWK’s requirement.

8.3 IWK INSPECTION

8.3.1 PDC 7
1. Ductile Iron Manhole Frame and Cover will be installed to IWK’s requirement.
2. For sewer work, it is required to conduct CCTV testing as intermediate testing.
3. An internal CCTV test to be conducted prior to PDC7 inspection with IWK.
4. After Road Binder Course is completed and internal CCTV test is conducted, we will call
IWK to conduct the PDC7 inspection then CCTV test will be carried out.
5. IWK will check the internal surface, jointing parts and the location to be inspected will be
confirmed by IWK’s representative.
6. The report of the CCTV will be submitted to consultant for their future submission.
7. Any defects highlighted by the IWK’s representative in the report will be rectify.

8.3.2 PDC 8
1. PDC 8 form will be submitted once the premix work is completed.
2. It is also known as final inspection with IWK for handing over sewer line.
3. The flow test will be carried out by releasing the tennis ball at the most upstream manhole.
There will be a water truck flowing the water into the upstream manhole so that the tennis
ball can flow from the upstream to downstream.
4. The inspection considered pass if the tennis ball able to flow through from upstream to
downstream without stuck.
