EXPECTATIONS FROM PARENTS
Parents play an important role in teaching their children the importance of protecting personal
information while online. They should be vigilant about their child’s internet activities and
inform school authorities about any misconduct or suspicious behaviour.
All devices being used by students are learning tools and should be used limitedly as tools of
entertainment.
• Parents should discuss and educate their children about Internet safety as soon as
he/she begins using the Internet
• Parents should take responsibility to ensure that the learning device/tool (mobile,
tablet, laptop, notebook etc..) is safeguarded against unproductive and unsafe activities
also since more often than not, unproductive activities damage the operating system
and slow the system down thereby making the asset a liability
• Parents to set the search engine to block material that is not meant for children below
16/18 years
• Parents should be vigilant about the activities their children are involved online. Setting
limits to ‘digital time’ ensures they do not have uninterrupted access to internet
• Parents to ensure that they disable and remove the SIM from the device used for
learning
• Parents to browse the Learning PortalTM and EDS with the children and initiate
discussions on their learning goals
• No face time or calls directly to the student during school hours. Parents can get in touch
through the Reception.

ANNEXURES
The internet is a great place for sharing, but you need to remember that you are
responsible for what you share online. Everything you post / share online combines to
make your digital footprint.
Remember that what you share with your friends may also be viewed by people you don’t
know. And once it is online, it could be there forever. All information posted online can
be traced back to source. So share and post information responsibly.
o Keep your personal details private. Use a nickname instead of your real name
and do not share your personal details with anyone
o Keep passwords private. Set different usernames and passwords for maximum
protection
o Think before you post. Once posted, it can be difficult to remove and it can
traced back to source.
o Be respectful of other people’s content that you post or share. Don’t forward
other peoples e-mails or share their personal information without their
permission
o Read the terms and conditions of any photo-sharing sites or other sites on which
you can post information

Annexure 2: Social Media Platforms 1
Social media is about collaboration and sharing information – therefore, the digital tools
need to be used with greater responsibility. Chatting to friends using IM, in chat rooms
and on social networking sites can be great ways to keep up to date.
The ability to interact and communicate with others is one of the biggest attractions of
the Internet for children. Unfortunately, they don't really understand that such activities
can put their privacy at risk or even threaten their safety. Hence they should be aware of
acceptable behaviour for using internet.
Some important things to remember when joining a social networking site and chatting
with people online are:
o Set your profile to private—customize your profile settings so only your friends
can see it
o Manage your friend list—having too many online friends makes it harder to
manage who can access your information. Don’t accept friend requests if you’re
not sure about the person
1

communication, including, but not limited to, social networks, blogs, Internet websites, internet forums,

YouTube, Google+, Flickr etc
o Treat people the way you want to be treated. Avoid using bad language and
don’t say nasty things. For example, if you type a message to someone in UPPER
CASE or use a long string of exclamations they may think you are shouting at
them. Avoid it.
o Content that can hurt the image of the school or of a person cannot be uploaded
on any social media site
o Students should not spend too long on social networking sites as it can affect the
time to be spent on academics
