Vectors
○ Topics: Position vector, addition/subtraction of vectors, scalar and

vector products, applications to geometrical problems and

mechanics.
○ Why After Coordinate Geometry?: Vectors rely on coordinate

geometry (e.g., position vectors in Cartesian coordinates) and

trigonometry (e.g., angles in dot/cross products). Algebra
(matrices) also supports vector operations.
○ Focus: Understand vector operations and their geometric

interpretations. Practice applications in mechanics and geometry,

as these are common in NIMCET.
. Calculus
○ Topics: Limits, continuity, differentiation, tangents and normals,

maxima and minima, integration (by parts, substitution, partial

fractions), definite integrals, applications to areas.
○ Why After Coordinate Geometry and Vectors?: Calculus builds

on algebra (manipulating expressions), trigonometry

(differentiating trigonometric functions), and coordinate geometry
(tangents, areas under curves). Vectors may also appear in
3
calculus applications (e.g., directional derivatives).
○ Focus: Start with limits and differentiation, as they are

foundational. Move to integration and its applications (areas) later.

Practice maxima/minima and tangents, as they connect to
geometry.
. Probability and Statistics
○ Topics: Basic probability theory, averages, dependent/independent

events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies,

and dispersions.
○ Why Last?: Probability heavily relies on set theory (for events),

permutations/combinations (for counting), and algebra (for

computations). Statistics uses algebraic manipulation and basic
calculus (e.g., for distributions).
2
○ Focus: Master probability concepts like independent/dependent

events and conditional probability. For statistics, focus on

averages, variance, and standard deviation, as these are commonly
tested.
Additional Tips
● Interconnected Practice: After completing each topic, solve mixed
problems that combine concepts (e.g., probability with permutations,
calculus with coordinate geometry). NIMCET questions often test
multiple topics in one problem.
● Prioritize Basics: Ensure you’re strong in algebra and set theory, as
1

they underpin most other topics.

● Time Allocation: Spend more time on algebra, calculus, and
coordinate geometry, as these are typically high-weightage topics in
NIMCET. Allocate roughly:
○ Algebra: 25%
○ Calculus: 20%
○ Coordinate Geometry: 20%
○ Set Theory & Probability: 15%
○ Trigonometry: 10%
○ Vectors: 10%
● Practice Mock Tests: After covering the syllabus, take NIMCET-
specific mock tests to identify weak areas and improve time
management.
● Revise Regularly: Revisit earlier topics (e.g., set theory, algebra) while
studying later ones to reinforce connections.
Sample Study Plan (Assuming 6 Months Preparation)
● Month 1: Set Theory (2 weeks), Algebra (2 weeks).
● Month 2: Trigonometry (2 weeks), Coordinate Geometry (2 weeks).
● Month 3: Vectors (1 week), Calculus (3 weeks).
● Month 4: Probability and Statistics (2 weeks), Revision of Set Theory
& Algebra (2 weeks).
● Month 5: Revision of Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors (2
weeks), Mixed topic practice (2 weeks).
● Month 6: Full syllabus revision, mock tests, and focus on weak areas.
This sequence ensures you build a strong foundation and progressively tackle
more complex, interconnected topics. If you have specific constraints (e.g., less
time or prior knowledge), let me know, and I can adjust the plan!
