A. Discuss five Risk assessment procedures in your workplace [10 Marks]

(1mark for procedure, 1 mark for correct explanation)
 Identifying potential hazards- It is important to firstly identify any potential
hazards within a workplace that may cause harm to anyone that comes into
contact with them.

 Identifying who might be harmed by those hazards- It should also be noted

how they could be affected, be it through direct contact or indirect contact.
It is not necessary to list people by name, rather by identifying groups

 Evaluating risk (severity and likelihood) and establishing suitable

precautions-this establish suitable and effective controls to reduce this level
of risk as far as is ‘reasonably practicable’. This means that everything
possible is done to ensure health and safety considering all relevant factors

 Implementing controls and recording your findings- significate findings of

the risk assessments are required to be kept either electronically or in
writing. is an easy way to keep track of the risks and control measures put
in place to reduce the identified risk

 Reviewing your assessment and re-assessing if necessary. - Employers

should periodically review the assessment and if necessary, re-assess any
controls in place

B. Describe the step-by-step criteria of controlling risks identified in your workplace

[10
Marks]
(1 mark for control method, 1m1ark for explanation, mark any five)
 Elimination -The most effective way to control a risk is eliminating the
hazardous process reducing hazards, most difficult to implement in an
existing process

@TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council March April 2022

 Substitution -this is a replacement of a hazardous process with a less

hazardous one, less expensive one
 Engineering Controls- They are favoured for controlling existing worker
exposures in the workplace because they are designed to remove the hazard
at the source, before it comes in contact with the worker. Well-designed
engineering controls can be highly effective in protecting workers and will
typically be independent of worker interactions to provide this high level of
protection.
 Administrative Controls- They are frequently used with existing processes
where hazards are not particularly well controlled. Administrative controls
programs may be relatively inexpensive to establish but, over the long term,
can be very costly to sustain.
 PPEs- When well used PPEs can be a good control risks, these methods for
protecting workers have also proven to be less effective than other
measures, requiring significant effort by the affected workers

32. According to standard operating procedures (EMCA Act of 2012), explain how to
