Assignment-5

This document outlines an assignment for a 4th-year ECE course focusing on antenna arrays. It includes several problems related to phase differences, element spacing, gain calculations, half-power beamwidth (HPBW), and side lobe levels for various configurations of isotropic antennas. The assignment is due on a specified date, and it requires calculations based on given parameters for different antenna array setups.

Advanced Antenna System (EC17119) 4 th Year ECE

Assignment-5
Date of Assignment: 22.10.2024 Date of Submission:

Antenna Array
1. What is the consecutive phase difference between the 12 elements of a linear array with
spacing d=0.7λ0 for scanning the beam at an angle of 30° from the broadside.

2. An antenna array is required to scan up to an angle θ = 30° measured from the broadside.
To avoid grating lobes, what will be the maximum allowed separation between the elements?

3. For a 15 element array of isotropic antennas with equal spacing of 0.65λ and fed with
equal amplitude and phase, find out the approximate gain of the array in dBi (assume
efficiency is 90%).

4. For a 25 element array of isotropic antennas with equal spacing of 0.71λ and fed with
equal amplitude and phase, find out the approximate HPBW of the array.

5. For a 12 element array of isotropic antennas with equal spacing of 0.64λ and fed with
equal amplitude and phase, find out the approximate direction of first null from broadside.

6. For a 35 element array of isotropic antennas with equal spacing of 0.71λ and fed with
equal amplitude and phase, find out the approximate the direction of first side lobe level from
broadside.

7. For a 14 element array of isotropic antennas with equal spacing of 0.7λ and fed with equal
amplitude and phase, find out the approximate magnitude of first side lobe level in dB.
