RDC Client for Linux

If you are using a Linux desktop, please ensure you have a package that supports Microsoft

Remote Desktop connections. The package you need may already be present or it may need

to be installed. There are many MS RDC clients available for Linux. Please check for:

Rdesktop – a widely supported RDC client for Linux that is likely already present on

your machine

Remmina – works for Debian, Ubuntu and other Linux distros

XRDP – an alternative RDC client for Linux

Consult your Linux distribution’s for the best RDC client and how to install it.

Connecting to our Labs via RDC

To connect to our VMware vSphere remote access lab servers using Microsoft Remote

Desktop Connection, you need 3 pieces of information (from your instructor or ESXLab):

1. The non-standard Port Number of the target machine: __________

2. Your Windows Domain login ID (e.g.: user5@esxlab.com)

3. Your Windows Domain ID password

Option 1 – Using Microsoft RDC From the Command Line w. One Monitor

You can get much more flexibility from Microsoft RDC if you launch it from the command line.
MS

RDC is invoked via the mstsc.exe command line using the following switches:

Switches Description

/v:<server>[:port] Connect to the specified server by IP address or Fully Qualified Name

If a non-standard port is used, add a ‘:’ followed by the port number

with no spaces

/w:# Set the horizontal width of the window to # pixels

/h:# Set the vertical height of the window to # pixels

/f Open the remote window in full screen mode

/prompt Prompt for credentials once a connection is established
