ABSTRACT
A well-written abstract serves multiple purposes:

● an abstract lets readers get the gist or essence of your paper or article quickly, in
order to decide whether to read the full paper;
● an abstract prepares readers to follow the detailed information, analyses, and
arguments in your full paper;
● and, later, an abstract helps readers remember key points from your paper.

The Contents of an Abstract:

1. the context or background information for your research; the general topic under
study; the specific topic of your research
2. the central questions or statement of the problem your research addresses
3. what’s already known about this question, what previous research has done or
shown
4. the main reason(s), the exigency, the rationale, the goals for your research—
Why is it important to address these questions? Are you, for example, examining
a new topic? Why is that topic worth examining? Are you filling a gap in previous
research? Applying new methods to take a fresh look at existing ideas or data?
Resolving a dispute within the literature in your field? . . .
5. your research and/or analytical methods
6. your main findings, results, or arguments
7. the significance or implications of your findings or arguments.

ABSTRACT
As social media devours the world, a lot of people do not appreciate its beauty.
People perceive it as a problem when it has the potential to make lives much simpler. The
advantages of social media have changed how people live, and the school, the
educational system, and the learning of students are some of the areas most impacted by
this change. As students use this to communicate, to give and receive information, and to
explore interesting ventures of social media, there is a need to acknowledge it.
Studies from Lev Vygotsky’s Collaborative Learning Theory and George Siemen
and Stephen Downes’s Connectivism Theory prove the need of connection of people,
especially to students to also learn within themselves and to others. Many studies around
the world also found the positive effects of social media in many aspects of today’s
generation.
This study explained the beauty of so-called social media in reference to
communicating, acquiring information, and engaging in interesting explorations by the
students. Everyone must adapt to the way the world is changing in order to create a useful
platform for learning. The students were surveyed through a standardized questionnaire
from a previous study and the results showed that social media was a great tool for
students to utilize and was not harmful to them coupled with responsible use. This
suggests that schools should understand social media as an innovative way for students to
learn lessons. Schools should implement it, as this teaches learners to adapt to the new
way of doing tasks in this competitive world.

DEDICATION
This work is the result of many arduous efforts. This work is fully and

proudly dedicated to the individuals who served as an inspiration to the

researchers. The parents of the researchers, who provided the study with

their unwavering support and never-ending encouragement. They were the

CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
INTRODUCTION

Rationale

Social media, the biggest place for interaction and people seem to see

that this is overtaking the world right now. It is a wonder if the world could

use this for a bigger purpose. Yes, this definitely can be used for good

purposes especially for education. There are lots of perks of social media in

relation to the performance of the students. Many adults think social media

will be a distraction rather than a tool in the classroom. This has been found

inaccurate when teachers are knowledgeable about how to use it (Loyola

University Maryland, 2018). It is useful because social media provides

plenty of information. Students use this for their connection to each other.

Social media has been interesting for student’s study place. Social media is a

big use for educational purposes and not a distraction.

As social media becomes bigger, many knowledgeable people become

a part of this to make informational content to share important knowledge

for students to use. There are great teachers who teach online for free, and it

is useful when they want to understand more about their lessons. This

became big as distance learning was implemented. Willbold (2019) stated

that Various
websites and social media networks are providing plenty of information that

can be helpful to students. Via social media news feeds, students can find

informational and relevant websites they want to follow so as to be kept in

the loop. The students will learn much more as usual as we can now access

free learning if they cannot understand a word from the school.

Social media has its educational advantages. For many years, it gained

popularity and became a trusted source of information (Source Essay, n.d.).

Some elementary school pupils used to visit the library to get the

information they needed to finish their assignments. It takes a lot of time

since they have to look in the right category and you have to check the

book's pages to see whether it has the answer they are looking for.

Thankfully, you only need to start typing a certain topic or question, and all

pertinent information from multiple websites will show in a matter of

seconds.

Connectivity is the biggest advantage offered by social media for

students (Roomi, 2021). Connectivity is the most essential advantage in

using the social media. Shy students from 8-Anahaw could communicate

through chats and messages without them having to talk in person, as time

goes on, those shy people would be close to you and you both will have a

connection to each other.

Theoretical Background

Theoretical Background

This research is anchored in Lev Vygotsky’s Collaborative Learning

Theory and George Siemen’s and Stephen Downes’s Connectivism Theory

as a supporting theory.

Collaborative learning is the educational approach of using groups

to enhance learning through working together. A group of two or more

learner’s work together to solve problems, complete tasks, or learn new

concepts. This theory is rooted in the work of Lev Vygotsky’s (1984) social

development theory and zone of proximal development, which highlighted

the importance of communication and social interaction in learning.

Connectivism is a relatively new learning theory that suggests

students should combine thoughts, theories, and general information in a

useful manner. It accepts that technology is a major part of the learning

process and that our constant connectedness gives us opportunities to make

choices about our learning. Connectivism was first introduced in 2005 by

two theorists, George Siemens and Stephen Downes. Siemens’ article

Connectivism: Learning as a Network Creation was published online in

2004 and Downes’ article.

Research Procedure

Gathering of Data. This section describes the details of data

gathering employing the research tools described earlier.

Treatment of Data. Identifies the statistical tool used in the study.

Research Procedure

Gathering of Data. The researchers handed out a copy of The

Purpose of Students’ Social Media Use and Determining their

Perspective on Education questionnaire to each student. After the subjects

had finished answering the questionnaire, the researchers analyzed and

interpreted the collected data.

Treatment of Data. The following statistical tool was used in the

study:
Per cent was used to summarize, analyze, and interpret the scores of

the respondents.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

This portion of the paper enumerates and defines 3 – 5 important

terms which are not defined anywhere in the previous sections.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following terms are defined:

Perk. This refers to something extra you get, in addition to a salary, in

exchange for working --- a bonus or a benefit.

Social Media. This is the means of interactions among people in

which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual

communities and networks.

Communication. This refers to the imparting or exchanging of

information or news.
Information. This refers to facts provided or learned about something

or someone.

Learning. This is the knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or

study.

CHAPTER 2
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter includes the presentation, analysis, and interpretation of

data gathered.

The tables below are arranged according to the order of the sub-problems.

Table 2
Communication

ITEM 5 4 3 2 1 TOTAL
Social Media enables 14 19 5 0 1 39
sharing the knowledge (35% (49%) (13% (0%) (3%)
(100%)
) )
According to the statistics provided above, 14 (35%) respondents

chose "completely agree" and 19 (49%) students went with "agree" both

"completely agree" and "agree" have the potential to be scored tied if the

other 5 students were not undecided in their votes, which was 13% out of

100%. It is understandable why they were unable to agree on this one,

though. People are not necessarily operating at the same speed just because

they can engage with one another. The other person they talk to might be

thinking about something else or may not be able to fully comprehend. The

shared knowledge could either be valuable or not depending on the other

person they talk to or the internet connection, which may be why the

remaining 3% belonged to the one respondent who selected "strongly

disagree."

Table 3
Information

ITEM 5 4 3 2 1 TOTAL
Social Media helps me 26 12 1 0 0 39
acquire new information (67%) (30% (3%) (0%) (0%)
(100%)
)

The table above shows that 26 (67%) of students found social media

very useful in obtaining the information they need. This is followed by 12

(30%) of the students who also agreed that social media helped them acquire

information. This is then followed by 1 (3%) of the students who were

undecided. There were also no students who chose to disagree or to

completely disagree.

Table 4
Learning

ITEM 5 4 3 2 1 TOTAL
Using social media for 16 14 8 0 1 39
lesson enables learning (41%) (36% (20%) (0%) (3%)
(100%)
)

With the highest score of 16 responses to completely agree out of 39

students, 41%, this represents that the students strongly agree that social

media enables learning for students. 36% for those who answered agree,

with 14 responses, which also adds up to the confirmation that students

agreed that social media is interesting and that it enables learning.

CHAPTER III
SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND
RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter contains the summary of the study, the findings based on

the data gathered and statistical treatment, the conclusion and the
recommendations proposed by the researcher pertaining to the perks of

social media.

Summary

Specifically, this study answered the following questions:

What were the respondents’ responses in terms of:

1. Communication;

2. Information;

3. Learning?

What suggestions or recommendations will be taken into consideration in

improving a designed learning contingency plan?

The study was conducted at Abellana National School, RSD Building,

room 313. The subjects of the research were the class of Grade 8 - Cedar of

Abellana National School with 39 students. The main instrument used in this

study was a standardized questionnaire that served as a tool to gather data

and statistics.

Findings

Based on the presentation, analysis and interpretation of data, the

following findings were established:

1. Almost everyone except for one student found social media useful in

communication;

2. Most of the students found social media useful in obtaining

information;

3. Most students used social media for learning lessons, while eight

students were undecided, and one student completely disagreed.

Conclusion

Social media is a platform that allows people to connect with one

another online and share ideas. As for the perk of communication, most

students considered social media helpful for knowledge sharing because it

enabled them to clarify things for better information. In connection with

information, 38 (97%) of the students agreed that social media helped them

acquire new information because they could use the internet to socialize and

communicate with others in order to validate the information they had

gathered. The majority of students also concurred that social media is

interesting, which might be advantageous and aid in their learning more

effectively when used. It is unthinkable for people in the current generation

to deny or disagree with the fact that social media has been shown to be

advantageous for our education and everything else. Social media should be

used responsibly by everyone because it has already been demonstrated to be

very beneficial to everyone in a variety of ways as everyone embraces the

world's changes.

Recommendations

As a result of this study, the researchers recommend the following:

1. Topics for future researchers

1.1 For parents to comprehend how social media for

communicating for academic purposes is essential for

learning.

1.2 The school should implement the use of social media for an

expeditious search of information by providing free internet

connection.

1.3 Teachers to apply teaching with the use of social media

to tackle lessons through technology and innovation to

adapt to the world's changes.
