 
Together x and y form a co-ordinate
When we write a function in standard
form, y must always be on its own

y=a(k ¿¿ x)+q ¿

Above or below the asymptote?

 If a> 0 then the graph will be above Asymptote:
the asymptote
 If a< 0 then your graph will be below Which direction?  Asymptote
the asymptote  Remember the graph is not allowed to
 If k > 1 then your graph is  touch or cross the asymptote!
 If 0< k <1 then your graph is

Steps:
1. Find the x-intercepts by making y = 0 (if there is one, it depends on the asymptote)
2. Find the y-intercept by making x = 0
3. Plot the points
4. Join with a curve
Example:
x
f ( x )=2

x
f ( x )=2.2 +1
()
x
1
f ( x )=−2. +3

Homework:
Sketch the following graphs:

a) y=2x −1

b) y=3. 2 x

c) y=−3x

()
x

d) y=−2. +6

What do we need?
1. a value
2. k value
3. q value

Homework:
Determine the equations of the following graphs:
