1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to provide the details of installation & testing of Batteries
& Battery Charger.
2. SCOPE
This procedure covers method of installation & testing of Batteries & Battery Charger.

4. RESPONSIBILITY
SITE MANAGER(SM)
He reports functionally to the project Manager and hierarchically to the Construction department. He represents
the contractor at the work site and has the overall responsibility of the construction operations and for achieving
the established objectives regarding time, cost, quality and HSE.
Material Controller
He reports to the Site Project Control Manager. He is responsible for material management in the field. Particularly
he collects the documentation covering the arrival of materials at site and provides for recording of their
movements. He then supplies the Site Project Control Manager with elements enabling the feasibility analysis of
the construction programme
Discipline Supervisor (Electrical)
He reports to the Site Manager. He directs subcontractor activities for his own discipline, ensuring that plant
construction works are performed according to the schedules and project documents, within the assigned cost
budget and according to quality and safety procedures, as well as according to the terms and conditions of the
subcontract.

5. PROCEDURE
It is ensured that all materials to be used for installation and testing of battery and battery charger are
inspected before use.
Battery Installations
- Inspect the Batteries & its accessories for any physical damage, which may have occurred during transit.
- Corrosive materials like acid/ alkalis shall be kept separately in isolated area with a ‘DANGER’ sign- board,
cautioning unauthorised handling.
- Batteries shall be assembled in its racks before electrolyte filling operation.
- Electrolyte mixing shall be done in a controlled manner without any spillage & disallowing overheating of the
electrolyte. It is recommended to carry out the mixing & filling of the electrolyte in presence of the battery
manufacturer.
- Adequate ventilation & exhaust will be provided during the electrolyte mixing & filling operations.
- Ensure terminal connections are made as per the approved drawings & sufficient petroleum jelly applied on the
terminals.
- Verify the polarity of all cells before connecting the battery links. The links shall be tightened as per
manufacturer’s recommendations.
Note: In case of any conflict between this procedure and EIL specification, the latter will be
prevailing.
