Topic/Agenda: Political Turmoil and Human Rights in Bangladesh: Challenges and
Pathways to Stability
1. Expresses deep concern over reports of extrajudicial actions, arbitrary detentions, and
harassment against political activists, journalists, and human rights defenders, and
calls upon the government to respect judicial due process and refrain from using force
disproportionately;
2. Calls upon the Government of Bangladesh to ensure transparency for the upcoming
elections under the observership of the committee to monitor the process and
reporting mechanisms to address electoral grievances;
3. Encourages the establishment of a bilateral dialogue mechanism with neighbouring
countries to address cross-border refugee impacts, with a specific focus on
humanitarian aid and resettlement options;
4. Calls upon international and regional actors to support capacity-building initiatives
for Bangladeshi institutions, including human rights organizations, law enforcement,
and the judiciary, to strengthen transparency, accountability, and adherence to
international human rights standards;
5. Encourages collaborative workshops on good governance, human rights, and crisis
response involving Bangladeshi officials, civil society leaders, and international
representatives, aiming to build sustainable and inclusive governance structures;
6. Requests the High Commissioner for Human Rights to engage in dialogue with the
Government of Bangladesh and relevant stakeholders to support efforts to improve the
human rights situation, and to submit a comprehensive report on the situation in
Bangladesh at the next Human Rights Council session;
7. Calls for the immediate end to any kind of political violence, intimidation, or
suppression of freedoms, and stresses the need to uphold the rights of citizens
including all political candidates;
8. Supports initiatives aimed at voter education to raise awareness about democratic
rights and the importance of participating in the electoral process, with a focus on
marginalized and minority communities;
9. Urges the government of Bangladesh, at it’s discretion to guarantee the right to
peaceful assembly;
10. Encourages international efforts to facilitate peaceful dialogue and conflict resolution
among involved parties,
11. Emphasizes on legal recognition and protection against discrimination for Rohingya
refugees;
12. Urges on the conduction of regular assessments and collaborates with NGOs to ensure
effective aid delivery and adapt to changing needs.
