The FELCOM 15 is FURUNO's new Inmarsat-C Mobile The FELCOM 15 consists of an antenna and display unit
Earth Station. It provides a high quality two-way telex and with keyboard. The display unit embodies a 10.4" color
data link between ships and other parties at sea or on LCD and processor unit. The distress alert button is
land. All functions and services of the Inmarsat-C system incorporated in the display for emergency. Data files and
are provided: EGC (Safety NETTM/FleetNETTM), distress utility program on floppy disks are easily loaded into the
message handling, two-way digital store-and-forward processor through the front loading disk drive in the
messaging including polling, data reporting, E-mail, etc. display unit. The compact design of display unit and
Distress alert are initiated by the remote distress alert omni-directional antenna unit offer space-saving
unit. The distress message including own ship's position installation. An optional GPS module is available for
is easily edited. A PC can be used for editing the position reporting without operator's intervention. GMDSS

1. MOUNTING THE UNIT
1.1 Antenna Unit
Mounting Location
• Mount the omnidirectional antenna unit high atop a mast clear of stays and the turning
diameter of a radar antenna. The ideal mounting location would be where no obstacle
appears in the fore and aft directions down to -5º and down to -15º in the port and
starboard directions. This concept is illustrated in the figure below. Shadow sector of the
antenna mast, whip antenna, etc. should be within 2 degrees at one meter from the
antenna unit.
