Excel Test Practice

Instructions:
Answer all questions.
Return your saved work to your blackboard. Do not use calculator, but use Excel to work out the
formulas.

Question 1: Spreadsheet 50 marks


Create the following spreadsheet.

1. Replace the words “Student number” with your own student number in cell A1.
2. Format the main heading as follows: [5]
Font Name : Nyala
Font Size : 24
Alignment : Merge and Centre cells A2 to J2
Font Colour : White
Fill Colour : Orange

3. Wrap text cells A5 to J5. [1]


4. Calculate the GROSS PAY using formula GROSS PAY= SALARY PER YEAR / 12 Months [4]
5. Calculate Tax using the formula Tax = 14% of GROSS pay. [5]
6. Calculate UIF @ 2 % of GROSS pay for all those earning more than R20 000, and calculate @1 % for
those earning less. [5]
7. Calculate Med Aid @ 8 % of GROSS pay. [4]
8. Calculate Nett Salary = GROSS PAY-deductions. [4]
9. Calculate Bonus Allocated based on Performance Rate. If performance Rate is more than equals to
75% an employee must be allocated a full Salary pay(Gross Pay) for Bonus, and if an employee
Performance rate is less, an employee must be allocated half salary pay(Gross Pay) for the Bonus.

10. Show the Performance status for each employee as follows: If employee’s performance rate is less
than 50% show “Bad Performance”, if performance rate is less than 75% show “Better performance”
else show “Top Performance”. [10]
11. Calculate the AVERAGES salary. [2]
12. Format B6:G13, I6:I13 AND C15 to SA currency with 2 decimals [2]
13. Draw a Pie Chart to represent all the Employee Names and their Bonus Allocations, add Data Labels
to your chart. [5]
14. Apply Conditional Formatting to add colour to the employee’s Gross Pay. A different colour will apply
as follows: [2]
 Change Text Colour to White and Font Colour Red (where the Gross Pay is below R20 000)

15. Save the edited SHEET as “Bonus Allocations” [1]


16. Save the worksheet as student number, department and submit your excel exercise on blackboard.
