1. You are provided with a set of test tubes and unknown organic substances labeled W, X,
Y and Z. You are also given the following reagents: dilute NaOH, distilled water,
Bromine solution and Phenolphthalein indicator. On each unknown compound perform
the tests shown in the table below and record your observation in the appropriate spaces.
Remember to wash the tube after each test.

3. You are provided with thermometer, dilute Hydrochloric acid, two test tubes in a rack, a
piece of Magnesium ribbon, Ammonium chloride and distilled water.
a. Fill one test tube with 1cm column of water and hydrochloric acid to each.
b. Measure the temperature and record as initial in the table below appropriately.
c. Put a piece of magnesium ribbon to Hydrochloric acid test tube and record your
observations and final temperature.

d. Put small amount of to water test tube, observe and record the results
