The document outlines the procedures and results of a sieve analysis experiment conducted in a construction materials laboratory, focusing on the grading of coarse and fine aggregates. It includes details on the apparatus used, the methodology for conducting the experiment, and the data collected, which indicates the particle size distribution of the aggregates. The findings suggest that the coarse aggregate has low fine content suitable for structural concrete, while the fine aggregate shows a well-graded distribution beneficial for construction applications.

DISCUSSION:
The sieve examination revealed a distinct distribution of particle sizes in both
coarse and fine aggregates. The majority of the particles in the coarse aggregate
were trapped on the 3/8-inch sieve (535 g), with only a little portion passing
through the finer sieves. This reveals that the sample is primarily composed of
bigger particles, while the presence of 16 g held on the No. 8 sieve (2.36 mm)
and 18 g flowing through suggests a modest proportion of finer particles. These
results indicate a pretty clean coarse aggregate with little particles.

In contrast, the fine aggregate sample showed more evenly distributed

gradation, with material retained throughout many filter sizes. The No. 40 sieve
had the maximum retention (99 g), followed by the Nos. 50 and 60 sieves. The
% passing results had a smooth gradient, which is ideal for workability and
compaction in construction applications.

CONCLUSION:

The sieve examination successfully revealed the particle size distribution of

both coarse and fine aggregates. The coarse aggregate has low fine content,
indicating its potential for application in structural concrete where coarse grading
is desirable. The fine aggregate, on the other hand, demonstrated a well-graded
distribution over different sieve sizes, indicating that it is good in filling voids and
improving mix cohesion. These findings emphasize the necessity of adequate
grading and quality control in aggregate preparation for meeting construction
standards and ensuring optimal performance in concrete mixtures.
