electricity.
B. Performance Standard:
a. Identify materials that are good conductors of heat and electricity.
C. Learning Competencies:
The learners should be able to identify materials which are good conductors of heat and electricity S5FE-IIIc-3
D. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
a. Identify the good heat and electricity conductors.
b. Demonstrate understanding of the effects of heat and electricity on people and objects.
c. Show cooperation in the assigned task.
d. Perform actively in the class activity.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Conductors of Heat and Electricity
Reference: Science Beyond Borders 5 Textbook, pp. 134-139, video presentation
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, laptop, video presentation, visual aid

III. Learning Experiences Learners’ Approach

5 E’s Learning Approach
A. Cautionary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Classroom Management
c. Checking of Attendance

A. Reviewing the previous lesson

ENGAGE

Good day, learners! Before we start our new lesson let

us recall what we have learned last time.

Teacher will flash pictures of materials and learners that

are good conductors of heat and electricity.

Copper conductor
Wires conductor
Silver conductor
Aluminum conductor
Metals conductor
Rubber non conductor
Glass non conductor

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

EXPLORATION

- The teacher will present the Yes ma’am.

materials to be used in the (group leader will come in front)
activity.
Before we proceed to our new lesson,
we are going to have an activity for
you to understand clearly what is (student will perform the experiment by
conductor and what is an insulator is. their respective groups)
So here are the materials needed.
Materials: (learners will answer the questions with
-Small flashlight bulb their group)
-One 1.5V AA battery
-Aluminium foil
-Self-adhesive tape
-Hot water and mug
-Coin
-Comb
-plastic toy
-Metal spoon
-pin
-Paper clip
3. Pre- Activity
Before we start to our activity, I want
you to be reminded on our rules
when performing our activity.
1. Work with your group only and
don’t roam around.
2. Respect group mates and their
idea and opinion.
3. Used soft voices when talking.
4. Participate actively.
5. Clean your area and keep things
properly.

I want you also each group to pick their Put ( / ) if the answer to the question is YES and ( × ) if
the answer to the question is NO.

4. Activity Proper Comb
Under strict supervision of the Metal spoon
teacher, learners will perform the Paper
activity following the procedures Paper clip
written in the book. Pencil
eraser
Afterwards, the learners will answer toothpick
the table and guide questions written
in the manila paper.
5. Post Activity
Presentation of Output

C. Presenting of new lesson Let the learners view a video clip about conductors and
insulators.
EXPLANATION

Let the learners view a video clip about

conductors and insulators.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new

skills
ELABORATION
A. Standards in Viewing a Video Presentation
Questions about the video presentation.

1. What is the video all about?

2. What is a conductor?
3. What is an insulator?
4. What are the metals made of?
5. Why do you think the materials made of metal is not
hot?
6. Why do you think the materials made of plastic is not
hot?
7. Why are some materials are good conductors of heat
and electricity?
8. How does the electrons move in conductors?
Insulators?
E. Developing Mastery

Learn more about the characteristics of good conductor

of heat and electricity by arranging the jumbled letters
in each sentence. Answers:

1. Metals are good conductor of electricity because of 1. Thermal Conductivity

its (Thermal Conductivity). 2. Conductors
3. Copper
2. Electrons flow easily through (Conductors) 4.-5. Water and Mineral

3. It is commonly used metal in electrical wires because

of its high conductivity. (Ceppor)

4-5. Our body is also a good conductor of electricity

because of the presence of (Water and Mineral)
F. Finding practical applications of concepts

Group Activity

Divide a class into 4 groups.

Group 1: Observe and Discuss
Look at the pictures.

1. How are these materials alike?

2. Why are metals good conductors of heat and
electricity?

Group 2: Draw me
Draw at least 3 appliances found at home that are
conductors of heat and electricity.

Group 3: Sing a song

Read the topic about characteristics of good conductors.
Then, compose a song.

Group 4: Color me
Color the animals that tells why some materials are
good conductor heat and electricity.
Presentation of Output
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about
the lesson.
1. What materials are good conductors? Insulators?
2. How does electricity travel within these materials?
3. Why some materials are good conductors of heat
and electricity?

H. Evaluating Learning
EVALUATION
Write TRUE if the statement discuss the characteristics
of good conductor and FALSE if not.

1. All solid materials can transfer heat and electricity

easily.
2. Metals are good conductors of electricity.
3. Ductile materials like aluminum and gold are
conductors of heat and electricity.
4. Plastics are good conductor of heat.
5. Copper is good conductor of electricity
because of its high thermal conductivity.
I. Additional activities for application or Explain briefly why cooking pots and baking ovens are
remediation made of metals.
