Project Title: Environmental Awareness and Advocacy

Activity Description

This portfolio outlines my journey through the "Be the Change: A Civic
Engagement Showcase." I selected the theme of Environmental
Awareness and Advocacy to address a pressing issue in my community.
This project involved planning, executing a community action, and
reflecting on the experience.

Step 1: Plan (Day 1 - 2)

Chosen Theme: Environmental Awareness and Advocacy

For this project, I decided to focus on Environmental Awareness and

Advocacy. After observing some environmental challenges in my
neighborhood, I identified an opportunity to promote awareness about
the importance of reducing plastic waste.

Issue Identified

In our backyard and school, plastic waste is a significant issue, with plastic
bags and bottles frequently littering in our area. This not only harms the
local ecosystem but also diminishes the beauty of our community.

Planned Action

To address this issue, I planned a Plastic-Free Week Campaign aimed at

encouraging my classmates to reduce their plastic usage. The campaign
included:
 A clean-up drive in our backyard and school to physically reduce plastic
litter.

 I dedicated the day to watering plants around our home, aiming to

enhance the greenery and provide fresh air.

Step 2: Act (Within 3–4 Days)

Campaign Execution

Over the course of three days, I executed the planned activities:

 (Day 1- 2): A hands-on clean-up drive took place in our backyard and
school grounds. The project encouraged students and residents to
participate in maintaining a cleaner environment, while reinforcing the
importance of reducing plastic waste and ensured it was properly
disposed of.
 (Day 3- 4): I dedicated the day to watering plants around our home,
aiming to enhance the greenery and provide fresh air. This activity was
designed to promote environmental stewardship and highlight the
benefits of a well-maintained natural space for clean air and community
health.
Step 3: Reflect and Present (Class Day)

Presentation Content

During my 5-7 minute presentation, I covered the following points:

 Project Description: I described the "Plastic-Free Week Campaign" and its

components.
 Motivation: I shared my motivation for choosing this issue, emphasizing
the importance of environmental stewardship.
 Actions Taken: I detailed the steps I took to implement the campaign.
 Challenges Encountered: I spoke about some challenges, such as
coordinating volunteers and ensuring proper disposal of collected waste.
 Learnings and Insights: I reflected on the power of community action and
the small changes that can lead to significant impact.
 Message or Call to Action: I concluded with a call to action, urging
classmates to consider their plastic use and make environmentally
conscious choices.

Conclusion

Participating in the "Be the Change" project has been a rewarding

experience that taught me the importance of civic engagement and
environmental advocacy. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute
positively to my community and hope to inspire others to take action.
