Solar Street Light Project Synopsis
Solar Street Light Project Synopsis
1. Title
Solar Based Automatic ON/OFF Street Light with Remote Controller and Dual Modes
(Always ON & PIR Motion Detection)
2. Abstract
This project proposes a low-cost, energy-efficient solar street lighting system with
intelligent ON/OFF and brightness control, achieved without the use of microcontrollers.
Instead, it leverages the DSX-PIR-03 Light Controller Module and an IR sensor-based remote
control to implement two operating modes:
The system uses a solar panel to charge a battery, which powers an LED light strip. The
DSX-PIR-03 module, with built-in light sensing and motion detection features, ensures
automatic ON/OFF based on ambient light (day/night detection) and motion-based
brightness control. The remote controller enables easy mode switching without the need for
microcontroller programming.
3. Objectives
- Design an automatic solar street light using off-the-shelf components.
- Eliminate the need for programming or complex circuitry.
- Implement dual lighting modes (Always ON and Motion Detection).
- Automate operation using the built-in features of the DSX-PIR-03 module.
- Provide wireless control using an IR remote.
4. Problem Statement
Conventional street lighting systems often waste power due to continuous operation
regardless of human presence or time of day. This project aims to eliminate energy waste by
using a solar-based lighting system that operates in intelligent modes and automatically
adjusts brightness without relying on complex microcontroller circuits.

7. Circuit Description
The solar panel charges the battery during the day. The DSX-PIR-03 module is connected
directly to the battery and controls the LED strip based on motion and ambient light. The
module automatically keeps the lights OFF during the day and manages brightness at night.
The IR receiver receives signals from the remote to switch between operating modes. This
toggles the internal settings of the PIR module or selects circuit paths to adjust behavior.
8. Features
- No microcontroller required – plug-and-play module-based system.
- Dual lighting modes for power saving and full illumination as needed.
- Wireless mode switching using IR remote.
- Automatic day/night and motion detection using DSX-PIR-03.
- Easy installation and low maintenance.
9. Advantages
- Simplified circuit without programming.
- Solar-powered – environmentally friendly.
- Cost-effective and reliable for rural areas.
- Remote-controlled convenience.
- Efficient battery usage through brightness adjustment.
10. Applications
- Solar street lighting for rural and urban areas.
- Parking lots and walking paths.
- Security lighting in residential or industrial zones.
- Public lighting in parks or campuses.
12. Limitations
- Fixed sensitivity and delay (based on module's internal settings).
- Limited customization compared to microcontroller-based systems.
- IR remote may require direct line of sight.
14. Conclusion
This project successfully demonstrates a low-cost, microcontroller-free solution for smart
solar street lighting. The use of pre-configured modules like DSX-PIR-03 and an IR remote
makes it accessible, reliable, and ideal for areas with limited resources, while still offering
advanced features like motion detection and automated brightness control.
