“There’s a way to do it better- find it “

Thomas

“Design is a journey to discovery”

Task
Most organisations and businesses benefit from having a website. The
internet is an excellent way of advertising goods and services, many
websites even allow customers to order goods online. It’s also an excellent
means of communication.
As a website designer and developer, you have been
approached by the local community to create a website that focuses on the UN
Sustainable Development Goa, connects it to the local context and serves as a
tool for information advocacy.

Statement of Inquiry:
Communities can work together to study the impact of
globalisation and ensure responsible and sustainable use of
resources.
Key Concept : Communication
Related Concepts: Resources, Sustainability
Global Context: Globalisation and Sustainability
A short note about Design Folder:

As you progress through the different stages of the design cycle,

all relevant activities and outcomes should be recorded, and
dated, in the design folder.
The design folder is a compilation of evidence accompanying
the final product/solution for a unit of work. You should
formally record the results of your research, various plans and
designs and the evaluation of your finished products/solutions in
the design folder.

each strand, for each of the Criteria along with the Start/Finish dates

Design Cycle

Criterion A: Inquiring and analysing

Task A1. Explain and justify the need for Developing a Website.
A1.1. Design a mind map ( graphic organizer) identifying the areas of priority
for your project. Examples: subject, resources used, software, research work,
duration, target audience, functionality, style, etc.

A1.2. Identify inquiry questions, (some examples are provided). You must
identify additional questions.
What do you want to create?
I want to create a website on the SGD goals which is goal number 7.

What you will need to find out?

The information about the SDG goal I have taken and see the significance of
it on the local and global community.

Who is the client for your project?

United nations

How are you going to learn all the required software required to design the
website?
Canva, notepad

Task A2. Identify and prioritize primary and secondary research needed to
develop a solution to the problem.
A2. 1. Identify what you have to research:
• Make a plan for your research, choose about 6 sources total and have at
least 2-3 Primary sources
• Make an organised table for the prioritisation of your sources, such as the
one below:

You do not have to show evidence of the research in the report itself, but it
has to be placed in the Appendix, which will be explored later on.
• For displaying the primary and secondary research, you can use a table as
a summary of the research you have conducted. The table should show
the research topic, the type of source used, the type of research and the
reason for the research.
• You must cite all the sources you have used in an appropriate format. It is
advised that you use the CMOS format.

Task A4. Writing a Design Brief By now, you have collected a great deal of data
that requires some analysis and summary in order to be useful and inform your
solution. You have to convert all the research you have done so far into a Design
Brief.

• Introduction to the task

To create a website on a UN SDG goal which i have chosen is number 7 which is
affordable and clean energy. For this i will have to research on the goal using
websites, videos, articles and see the impact locally and globally.

• Description of the target audience

My target audience is going to be PYP 4 the age group is going to be between 8-10
• Research plan
I will first research on my goal . referring to the un sdg website by the indian
government i will find out about how this goal is being implemented in India and
the issues and measures taken by the Indian government. Then I will also research
about existing websites to draw inspiration regarding color scheme, layout and
presentation of content. Then i will also explore many HTML.

• Required materials
Notepad++, Canva, the browser, websites, videos, Tutorials

• Analysis of existing website

I analysed Apple and Amazon and found that Apple focus a lot more on the website
quality then amazon as the images are way better in quality and much more
detailed on the other hand amazon doesn't focus on their quality at all as their
website interface hasn't changed in a long time and the products are not detailed
and this is risks of getting scammed since anyone can sell on amazon. Also the
content on apple is very reliable and up to date.
• Description of the solution
Creating a website on my UN sdg goal 7 (Affordable and clean energy) So i can
promote awareness about this goal due to the fact that many people are not
informed about the severity of the situation of how pollution is starting to
negatively affect our daily lives so this website offers an in depth analysis on the
functioning of SDG 7
• Product design specification
Creating a visually appealing website with centers around the promotion of
alternative forms of energy.

• Conclusion
My task will be to create a website on the SDG goal 7 (Affordable and clean
energy)
For this I first am going to Research using the UN sdg goal 7 website which is by
the indian government after which i will start making my website which is going to
be 5-6 pages as i want to put as much information as i can, after this i will go
present the website to pyp-5 in my school.

Criterion B: Developing Ideas

Task B1: List the requirements (Design Specifications) that are needed to design
the solution. Create a sitemap of the website.

Task B2: Include rough drafts of work done. Take feedback from the target
audience/peer/adult/designer artiste to justify whether the choice of layout and
design communicate the information to the user and are aesthetically appealing.
Include screenshots of the rough draft of the homepage and the other two
pages. Minimum three drafts of the homepage, first page and second page.

Task B3: Justify the Selected Design ( Which Draft have you chosen or combined
ideas/designs of two?)
Are all three drafts satisfying the specifications? Which draft have you
chosen to be the final one?

Design Comparison

Task B 4: develop accurate and detailed planning drawings/diagrams and outline
requirements for the creation of the chosen solution

Criterion C: Creating the Solution

Task C1: Plan for Creation. Day-wise work done.

Task C2 Demonstrate excellent technical skills while making the

product.

• In this strand you have to show evidence of you working on your

project, and explain in substantial detail the main aspects of what you
did, how you did it and with what you did it. The best way to do this is
through annotating pictures/snippets of your work, to show that you
understand the different nuances of what you are doing/have done

Task C4: Final product. Discuss the changes made while creating the solution.
• Begin with listing the major changes that you made to the plan, the plans
that did not concern time, but the actual solution itself. (for example, if you
were planning to make a laptop application but changed it mid-way to a
mobile-only application.). Also, mention the reason why you made this
change, and how much time it cost you by making it.
• Next mention minor changes to the plan. The changes in the time that it
took you to execute a step in the plan or the date that you did it. For these,
you can simply list how much longer or shorter it took you to do the step,
why it did, and how it affected the solution overall.

Include screenshots of the final work here : ( Home page,

first page, second page and if you have created more….)
Upload all the codes in a folder in Google Drive and share
the link to the folder here.

Criterion D: Evaluating
Task D1: Outline a few testing methods to measure the success of the project.
This strand prompts you to test your success through different methods.
• The easiest methods are by designing surveys that ask the target
audience if different success aspects were met by your solution. This can
be done through Google Forms and shown in a table like the one below:

Task D2: Discuss the improvements in the design work.

• Similar to the previous strand you can use feedback you got from surveys
or interviews from the first strand in order to clearly state and support the
improvements your solution needs.
• You can use a table like this to present the improvements in a clear and
concise manner:

Specific Aspect What needs to be improved ?

Design
Content

Purpose of the Website

Navigation

Task D3: What have you learned about your performance and how would you
improve your performance on the next project? (Be specific)
Task D4: Personalized ATL Reflection Table
In this table you will record meaningful learning experiences that you
underwent in your classes. Write details and examples of your learning
experience.
