being audible and maintaining eye contact when teaching.
 In staffroom, teamwork was enhanced by sharing ideas on how to motivate learners
and enhance performance.
 In solving some disputes and some academic questions critical thinking and problem
solving skills were highly applied.
 The core values I potrayed by respecting others and being open minded.
 I learnt as ateacher the learning objectives should be clear to the students.
 I learnt as a teacher I should engage the students at beginning of a lesson by asing
what we learned in our previous lesson and also linking what I will teach with our
previous lesson content.
 Lastly, learnt that assessment and asing questions makes the students recall what they
learnt.
2.4 A profile of skills and competencies gained/acquired
The one month practicum attachment has been of great importance and I acquired some skills

mental capacities and needs to be handled individually.

15
 I observed that students need to be motivated both positively and negatively
where possible to maintain discipline and good academic performance.
 I observed that not only teachers contribute to school performance but also
the the parents and the community through fee contribution and giving
guidance to their students.
 I observed that preparation of a lesson plan and records of work ensures the
syllabus is coveed on time.
 I observed that teamwork ensures great school performance.
 Lastly, I observed the non teaching staff plays a major role in contributing to
development and success of the school by offering the services needed for the
teaching and learning process such as security, cooking ,cleaning, and
secretarial services

Critique

Among all well done wor within the school environment indeed there must be
some stain and therefore there must be some be criticized and put into
consideration and are as follows;

1. Firstly, the school library need to be advanced and have enough seats to
accommodate a large number of students to conduct their studies.

2. Secondly, the working environment for the teachers must be spacious to

avoid congestion in the staffroom.

3. Lastly, the practicum period was too short and not enough to be in l school
offices thus the experiences that I came across was scheduled for one month
hence less information.
Relevance of the experience to training
The period gave me a grips of the actua teaching and learning process, I acquired
new set of skills attitude and knowledge in my career life . It improved my
communication skills thus creating a good heaithy relation. I

SECTION 3
Summary
Summarizing on my practicum report, the primary goal of the practicum was to prepare me for
the actual teaching practice. During the class attendance wih the cooperating teacher I learnt that
she was always willing to guide and correct me.

16
Several places and departments within the school are interdependent to each other and are
important in the school. Through the experiences that I learnt during the exploration I
encountered a good relationship with the senior teachers and all students.
The practicum enabled me to understand and have skills on different departments within the
school setting where there are emphasis on instructional time, course development, assignment
grading and other curriculum review and planning issues.
The practicum enabled me to conceptualize and execute the course syllabus with the help of the
cooperating teacher.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I can say that there were positive and negative aspects, strengths and weaknesses
during this period of practicum experience. I mastered the time Daffirm that all the steps in my
cooperating teacher lesson plan were covered in the class as the time allocated.
Working environment plays a vital role in motivating the teachers and teachers in duties
assigned.
During my practicum, I tried to be responsible in every aspect where I followed my schedule , I
hereby say that the education faculty should arrange the practicum well in advance in which the
practicum to take place so that as the student teacher I should be taught how to follow the
syllabus and the curriculum in general.
The practicum has been well and has been my mentorship model towards attaining the skills and
knowledge that I need to have during my teaching period. The practicum has made me increase
my personal effort and constructive professional communication , presenting an ethical,
responsible and professional attitude towards the school staff students and parent.

Recommendations
During the practicum period at Kagumo Junior Secondary School I did some discoveries as
follows;
 The teachers should motivate the students in whatever the way
possible that it may result to their performance and academic
development of the school.

17
 The university executive should extend the duration of the practicum
to at least two months for student teacher to cover all areas of study.
 I would recommend the university to always get involved in making
arrangements with the outside organization to get attachments for
their students.
 The university should release the practicumkm letters early enough
for students to search for attachment places earlier.
 Teacher student interaction should be encouraged to avoid fear among
students
 I recommend the university to carry out constant supervision and
monitoring of students during practicum period so as to encourage
them to perform their duties fully and accurately.
