Section A: Position and Transformation (10 marks)

1. (2 marks)
Triangle A has vertices at A(1, 2), B(3, 2), and C(1, 4).
Apply a reflection in the line x = 0. Write the coordinates of the image triangle A′B′C′.

2. (1 mark)
Describe the transformation that maps point P(3, 5) to point Q(6, 2).
(State the type and vector of the transformation)

3. (3 marks)
(a) On the grid below rotate shape A by 90° anti-clockwise about the point (0, 2).
Label your answer A'.

a. Describe the transformation that maps G to H.

b. Is there more than one way to describe the transformation? Explain briefly.

4. (2 marks)
The points M(2, 2) and N(10, 6) are endpoints of a line segment.
Find the coordinates of the point that is ¾ of the way from M to N.

5. (2 marks)
Shape L is enlarged to become shape M using a scale factor of 2 from centre (0, 0).
If L has a vertex at (3, −2), what are the coordinates of the corresponding vertex in M?

Section B: Volume, Surface Area, and Symmetry (10 marks)

6. (2 marks)
A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and height of 10 cm.
Calculate the volume of the cylinder.
(Use π = 3.14. Give your answer in cm³)

7. (2 marks)
A triangular prism has a right-angled triangle cross-section with base = 6 cm, height = 4 cm, and length

1
= 15 cm.
Calculate the volume of the prism.

8. (1 mark)
How many planes of symmetry does a cube have?

9. (2 marks)
The net of a cylinder includes two circles and a rectangle.
If the radius of the circle is 3 cm and the height is 8 cm,
calculate the total surface area of the cylinder.
(Use \pi = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place)

10. (3 marks)
The table shows some regular polygons and their prisms:

Shape Lines of symmetry Planes of symmetry

Triangle 3 ?

Square 4 ?

Pentagon 5 ?

a. Complete the missing values.

b. Explain how 2D symmetry relates to 3D planes of symmetry.

Answer Key

1. A′ = (−1, 2), B′ = (−3, 2), C′ = (−1, 4)

2. Translation by vector (3, −3)
3. a. Rotation 180° around the origin.
b. Yes, it could also be described using successive reflection and translation.
4. Vector = (8, 4); 3/4 = (6, 3); point = (8, 5)
5. Coordinates become (6, −4)
6. V = πr²h = 3.14 x 16 x 10 = 502.4 cm³
7. Area = 0.5 x 6 x 4 = 12; Volume = 12 x 15 = 180 cm³
8. 9
9. Area = 2πr² + 2πrh = 2(3.14)(9) + 2(3.14)(3)(8) = 56.52 + 150.72 = 207.2 cm²
10. a. 3, 4, 5 respectively
b. Each line of symmetry in 2D corresponds to a plane of symmetry in the 3D prism.
