• MOSFET as a switch and amplifier.

Course Objectives:
• To illustrate MOSFET configurations, parameters and analysis.
• To elaborate MOSFET applications like amplifiers and oscillators.
• To describe Operational Amplifier performance parameters.
• To elaborate linear applications of Operational Amplifiers.
• To discuss non-linear applications of Operational Amplifiers.
• To explain types of converters and PLL.

Course Contents
Unit I MOSFET Analysis 07 Hours
Enhancement N-channel MOSFET: Introduction to E-MOSFET, Biasing techniques of MOSFET
fixed bias, self bias and voltage divider bias, DC load line, small signal model and parameters. Non
ideal characteristics: Finite output resistance, body effect, subthreshold conduction, breakdown
effects, temperature effect, effect of W/L ratio. Configurations of E-MOSFET: CS, CD and CG
configurations. Common source amplifier: DC and AC analysis, effect of coupling and bypass
capacitances, Frequency response of CS amplifier. Relevant Applications.
Unit II MOSFET Applications 07 Hours
MOSFET Circuits: Current sink & source, current mirror. MOSFET as a Feedback Amplifier:
Types of feedback- positive, negative, loop gain, properties of negative feedback, feedback topologies,
effects of feedback, voltage series & current series feedback amplifiers and analysis, Oscillators-
basics of oscillator, Barkhausen criterion, Wein bridge and RC phase shift oscillator. Relevant
Applications.

Unit III Operational Amplifier 07 Hours
Block diagram of op-amp, differential amplifier configurations, symbol, ideal equivalent circuit and
pin diagram of op-amp, differential amplifier analysis for dual-input balanced-output configuration,
parameters, open loop op-amp configurations, op-amp with negative feedback and its topologies,
effect of voltage series and voltage shunt feedback amplifier. Relevant Applications.
Unit IV Linear Applications of Op-Amp 07 Hours
Inverting and non-inverting amplifiers, voltage follower, summing amplifier, difference amplifier,
ideal integrator, practical integrator, ideal differentiator, practical differentiator, Three op-amp
Instrumentation amplifier, Active filters: low pass, high pass and band pass filter. Relevant
Applications.
Unit V Non-Linear Applications of Op-Amp 07 Hours
Basics of non-linear applications of op-amp, comparator, Zero-Crossing Detector, Schmitt trigger
(Symmetrical and Asymmetrical), Multivibrators, Square and Triangular wave generator,
Precision Rectifiers, Peak Detector. Relevant Applications.
Unit VI Converters & PLL 07 Hours
Converters-Basics of converter, classification of converters, I-V and V-I converter. DAC & ADC:
Block diagram of data acquisition system, characteristics, merits, demerits of DAC and ADC, types
of DAC- Resistor weighted and R-2R-2-bit DAC, 4 bit R-2R DAC, types of ADC- SAR, Flash type
and dual slope ADC PLL: Block diagram, parameters and applications, IC 565. Relevant
Applications.
