Why it is used in teaching & learning of science

Concept mapping: It is a tool that helps a learner to organize
their cognitive framework into more powerful integrated
patterns.
It allows learner to be actively involved
Learner Centered – Learners can work at their own speed
It is a higher order task as it requires understanding

• It combines visual learning with the spatial representation of
information to promote meaningful conceptual learning.
• It involves listing the main ideas/concepts and words and
arranging these in a hierarchy or relation to each other

• It is a powerful tool to help learners work with text
• a) reading: finding those main ideas/ concepts.
• b) It helps learner to write as it provides a structure.
• (DART = directed activities related to text)
