TASS CONCEPT MAP
When new knowledge is integrated with and connected to existing knowledge that is
easier to knowledge and to remember. A professor’s job is to build scaffolding from
existing knowledge on which to hang incoming new knowledge. Using concept map
is one way to build scaffolidng.
The following list contains functions that can be performed by using concept maps.
a) Analyze- to examine carefully and in detail so as to identify causes.
b) Brainstorm- Uses to show a system of persons or things ranked one above
another, left to right; uses in the beginning of a project to visually arrange interrelated
and sequentially ordered sections within the whole, similar to an outline.
c) Compare and Contrast- Uses to analyze similarities and differences between two
things.
d) Evaluate- Use to show positive, negative, and interesting attributes of a subject,
concept, topic, solution, etc. Hypothesize- A proposition assumed as a premise in an
argument.
e) Interact- Uses to show the nature of an interaction between persons or group.
f) Sequence- Uses when prioritizing elements from most important to least important
g) Visualize- Uses to see the description of physical structures, spatial relationships,
concrete objects abstract concepts, or images.
6. Improved Communication
As a visual aid for communication, concept maps assist students in clearly and
methodically presenting to others what they understand about a subject.
Students must evaluate which concepts are more essential or central when creating a
concept map, which promotes critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
Teachers can also use concept maps as an assessment method. Teachers can learn
more about their students' comprehension and spot any places that could require more
explanation by looking over their maps.
Concept maps can aid in problem-solving by laying out possible solutions and
showing how they relate to different aspects of a problem or topic.
Incorporating concept maps into teaching encourages students to take an active role in
their learning process, fostering a deeper understanding and long-lasting retention of
the material.
