Pharaoh Code

A fast-paced math puzzle game with easy rules for the whole family

Summary
Welcome to the forbidden mysteries of the ancient Egyptian dynasties. Many have tried to
uncover its secrets and acquire the legendary treasure of the Pharaohs. But so far, all
have failed. The wise Pharaohs sealed their treasures with cryptic numerals, called the
„Pharaoh Code“. Whoever wants to gain this prize, will have to solve the secret of the
code!
Good Luck!

Contents
• game board (bottom of box)
• sand glass (30 sec)
• 3 dice (8-, 10- and 12-sided)
• 48 treasure tiles in 4 different colors

Game Overview
Players use the numbers shown on two or three of the dice to reach one of the target
numbers on the treasure tiles (using basic math) to acquire that treasure. Treasure tiles
show a target number on the front side and a number of scarabs on the back side,
denoting the treasure value of that tile. The colors show the level of the tile (yellow =
lowest, black = highest). Higher level tiles also have a higher treasure point value. At the
end of the game, the player who collected the most treasure points wins.

Setup
1. Place the game board in the center of the table.
2. Separate the treasure tiles according to the color marked on
the front side of the tiles. Shuffle them separately and build
separate piles, one for each color. Place the four piles next
to the game board with the number side up.

front side: shows level back side: shows treasure points

3. On each row of the game board, place the appropriate number of treasure tiles,
number side up (1 black tile, 2 red tiles, 3 blue tiles and 4 yellow tiles).
4. Place the sand glass next to the game board.
5. The oldest player starts and takes the three dice.

Playing the game

1. At the beginning of his turn, the active player rolls the three dice.
2. After the dice have been rolled, all players should try to reach one of the target
numbers using the numbers on two or three of the dice in basic arithmetic
operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). It is not allowed to use a
die more than once. As soon as any player manages to find a solution, that player
should call out the number on the treasure tile and take it.
Example: The dice show 2, 5 and 11. Mike calls out “33” and takes the treasure tile
with that number from the game board. His solution was: (5-2) x 11 = 33.
3. When the first player takes a tile, he turns over the sand glass. The other players
now have 30 seconds to find other solutions. Every player, including the first player,
to take a tile, may only take one tile per round.
4. When the time is up, the round ends. Now every player who took a tile should
explain his solution.
5. If a solution is correct, the player may keep the tile with the
front side up. The number of golden scarabs on the back side
counts towards his final score.
6. If a solution is incorrect, the player has to keep the tile with
the back side up. The golden scarabs of tiles with their back side up count as
penalty points. They are deducted from a player's score at the end of the game.
7. Before starting the next round, new treasure tiles of the appropriate color have to be
placed on the empty spaces of the game board. Then the player to the left of the
active player becomes the new active player and takes the three dice.

Empty spaces can be filled. Game ends, as the second row can't be filled.

End of game
If there are not enough tiles of the appropriate colors to fill all the empty spaces on the
game board, the game ends. Players count their treasure points and subtract the penalty
points from failed attempts. Whoever has the highest treasure point value wins. If two or
more players are tied in treasure point value, the player who gathered more tiles (including
tiles from failed attempts) wins. If there still is a tie, the tied player who has the tile with the
highest number wins.
