Jazz Music Race And Culture In Urban America
As Jazz grew out of blues and slave music to become independently popular in the 1940 s and 50
s, it also facilitated a conversation about racial equality and black peoples place in American
society. Jazz was recognized by many as black people music due to its roots in slave music and the
blues. This controversy not only brought jazzto the attention of a larger audience, but also, gave it
cultural relevance as music that acted as resistance music and, alternately, brought the warring
skin colors together in harmony. Without the political air that surrounded jazz, the genre would
not have carried the same musical or social influence, as many white people loved the music, but
did not necessarily love the people making it; this is exemplified by the music itself and described
in the writings of many prominent jazz scholars. Jazz music began in the Deep South as the
product of African American discrimination and struggle, and was able to develop due to their
eventual independence after the Civil War. For a long time, blacks weren t being recognized.
Their talents and capacities were debased, devalued and degraded (West 501). Peretti s novel, The
Creation of Jazz: Music, Race, and Culture in Urban America, discusses the racial and cultural
dynamics of jazz music. He argues that it is possible to gain an understanding of jazz by examining
the social changes that occurred as a result of the genre s development. Peretti addresses the
controversial belief that jazz is more
Examples Of Overcoming Struggle
Overcoming Struggle Obstacles don t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don t turn around
and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it, said the very successful
and famous basketball player known as Michael Jordan. However, sometimes these struggles look
as if they are impossible to overcome, such as getting limbs torn off of the body (or having none
to begin with), losing family in a war, or not being able to see or hear, yet these problems have
been solved. Individuals can overcome their struggle by maintaining a positive mindset, being
resourceful, and having support from others. One effective way to conquer conflicts is to sustain
a positive attitude. Kyle Maynard was born with congenital amputation, which is the condition of
being born without having limbs. This causes a struggle for Kyle in everyday life to fend for
what he needs to live. In addition, it causes another struggle to not be judged by others for having
this disability. Kyle Maynard states, I don t give up easily on things. Every excuse that we make,
keeps us from the things that we want the most out of life ( Kyle ). This is an example of positive
thinking where Kyle changed his mindset to think differently about his actions that lead him to
feel better about what he does. Enjoying what he does lessens his problems and was a supporting
factor of his success. He is also a motivational speaker and being optimistic is a major aspect of
being inspirational. If Kyle did

Abstract Mobile marketing can be made more personalized through Mobile Personalized Marketing
(MPM). Customers now expect content to be more personalized and relevant, and marketing
technology has risen to meet the challenges. Due to the ubiquity, interactivity and localization of
mobile devices, the customer contextual information ((i.e) the environment where a customer is
located) identifies the needs of customer and offer product services by understanding the customer s
preferences. Existing work focused on contexts of mobile users and their activities for better
predicting customer preferences. In existing, only limited numbers of dimensions are considered to
predict the user preferences. It cannot precisely predict about people s daily activities, which could
be extremely difficult due to the inherent randomness of human behavior. The proposed work
focuses on the number of dimension combination to be increased for each event with respect to
context and action rule of a user. User clustering is constructed and similarities between the users are
also evaluated for prediction of mobile behaviors with considerations of user relation. Personalized

Descriptive Essay On Lynyrd Skynynd
I have not been to many concerts in my life, so I did not know what to expect when I went to see
Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert last month. A few years ago, I saw Celine Dion in concert and was very
impressed by her beautiful stage, the infallible theatrics of her performers, and the wardrobe
changes. I expected the Lynyrd Skynyrdconcert to be similar, but it was nothing like that at all.
Concerts can vary in considerable ways; everything from the stage set up, performance, and the
audience can completely change the concert goers experience.
The Celine Dion concert had a very elaborate stage with beautiful props and decorations. Each
seemed to magically change to match every new song she sang. I was expecting a comparable lay
out at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. Their concert, however, was just the opposite. While waiting for
Lynyrd Skynyrd to perform, I noticed that the stage was sparse and unimpressive. The only thing
that really caught my eye was a baby grand piano on the left side of the stage. The other items on
stage were just typical musical instruments that you would expect to see at any rock concert. The
only thing that changed throughout the concert was a cheap backdrop that would occasionally
change to fit the song.
As Celine came out on stage and started to perform her first song, everything was choreographed
perfectly. Celine, her band, and her backup dancers, impeccably executed each song. The Las Vegas
style influence on her show was undeniable. Obviously, she and
The Taming Of The Shrew
The Taming of the Shrew is a comedy/love story written by Shakespeare between 1590 and 1592.
However, in the current era with new beliefs of men and women s roles, The Taming of The
Shrew is seen as pure misogyny. The plot of the play follows the idea that Bianca, the youngest
daughter, is a beautiful young girl with lots of male attention and is eager to wed, though her
wealthy father will not allow it until her older hot tempered sister also has a suitor. Many modern
films has been made on this famous Shakespearean play, including; Taming of the Shrew directed
by Franco Zeffirelli, 1967. The film is a filmic rendering of the play. 10 things I hate about you,
1999, is a loose adaptation of the play, directed by Gil Junger. 10 Things is a... Show more content on

This is shown when she throws a stool at Gremio and Hortensio for saying she is too hard for a

not interested in looks or personality, he comes only looking for money. As he goes to Katerina s
home to ask Baptista for her hand in marriage, one of the most important settlements Petruchio
wants to agree on is the dowry he receives from the marriage. At first Katerina is completely
against the marriage and attempts to say no at the wedding although he kisses her before she can
speak. At Bianca s wedding, Katerina claims, ...Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper, Thy
head, thy sovereign; one that cares for thee... And when she is froward, peevish, sullen, sour and
not obedient to his honest will, What is she but a foul contending rebel? She does this to describe
a woman s role. This shows, despite the starvation, sleep deprivation, and overall mistreatment
Petruchio gives to Katerina, she is eventually tamed by him and becomes submissive to his
misogynistic views. Kat from 10 Things I Hate About You, is an independent, likable and head
strong girl who cannot stand misogyny or sexism. In the first scene of the film, Kat s personality

their convertible singing along to the radio. Kat is an opinionated character, however, compared to

Repetition In The Epic Of Gilgamesh Essay
In The Epic of Gilgamesh, repetition is used to emphasize the changes the Gilgamesh goes through
throughout the text. In particular, the repetition at the beginning and end of the text draws
attention to first how he will change and, lastly, how he has changed. For example, repetition is
used to depict Gilgamesh s physical journey, which mirrors the changes he went through in the
process of becoming wise. Further, Gilgamesh is forced to accept that he cannot be immortal on
the earth, and can only live on in legacy and the memories of others. Particularly, regarding the
memories of others, he grows to have appreciation for the greatness of the city he rules over. Lastly,
Gilgamesh grows to have regard for the gods despite his focus on his earthly... Show more content on

During Gilgamesh and Enkidu s journey to slay Humbaba, the phrase, [At twenty] leagues they
broke bread, / [at] thirty leagues they pitched camp: / [fifty] leagues they travelled in the course
of a day, is repeated many times. This passage describes Gilgamesh s physical journey by how far
he s traveled, which parallels the progress he has made on his mental and spiritual journey at this
point. In addition, the phrase pitched camp implies that he still has farther to go on his journey,
just as he is not done learning and becoming wise. Later, at the end of the text, a similar phrase
appears: At twenty leagues they broke bread, / at thirty leagues they stopped for the night. This
quote includes neither the description of how far he traveled, nor the phrase pitched camp. The
lack of the former represents the greatness of his journey, such that it cannot be quantified. In
regards to the latter, the absence of pitched camp and the finality of the word stopped serves to
emphasize that he has reached the end of both his physical and mental journeys and obtained
wisdom. Part of his journey to wisdom is learning and accepting that he will never live forever on the

Epictetus Club Analysis
The Epictetus Club In ancient Rome, there was this philosopher who was born a slave. His name
was Epictetus. According to Traylor in his book The Epictetus Club, Epictetus master crippled
him when he was young, and as a result, Epictetus endured poor health for the rest of his life.
Instead of growing resentful of his circumstances, he chose to allow his difficulties to bring good.
He made himself stronger, kinder, and wiser in order to live a healthier mental life (Traylor,
2004. P 11). When he was gifted with his liberty, Epictetus started teaching principles of personal
freedom and tranquility (Traylor, 2004. P 11). His followers became so numerous that it alarmed
the Roman Empire rulers. When the emperor requested that he shave off his beard to show the
public his subservience to the emperor , he declined (Traylor, 2004. P 12). Subsequently,
Epictetus was ordered into exile. In Greece, his place of exile, he opened a small school. According
to Traylor, this school taught students how to live a life of serenity and purpose (p 12). Traylor
wrote, He was said to be a kind and good hearted man, passing away around the year 130 A.D (p.
12). Traylor then brought me back to the present by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traylor wrote, I can help myself by serving others (p 109). As a Christian, service is a common
theme. Jesus Himself served people by healing them, showing them kindness, and physically serving
them (ex. washing his disciples feet). I have also found through personal experience that acts of
service help me feel good (not to mention others!). But the current culture is all about serving
yourself. This lesson about serving stuck out to me because I currently have a job in retail. In the
retail business, customers can be rude and sometimes get a little violent when they don t
immediately get what they want. There are some nice customers, but there are customers who follow
the culture as

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Matrix Organizations
Organizations are nowadays developing their theories or structures in order to have efficiencies in
among the companies. There we have learnt three organization formations, which are matrix
organization, boundary less organization, and learning organization. Though all of these
organization structure reserve their benefits and advantages, there are also disadvantages and
weaknesses they particularly encounter.
Matrix organization is one of the business systems that used in advanced reporting and analyzing

and product manager. As challenges, this creates competition between managers who has most

As learning organization is commonly utilized in information technology and engineering, it costs
times and budgets in its experimentations and tests. The company has to buy advanced stuffs that are
necessary in experimental projects; moreover, it takes time to finish one project. Sometimes, there is
under circumstance of uncertainty whether the project will be successful or not. Workers can be
stressed out by too many steps and procedures and affected by mental stress. Despite this cost of
finance and time being used on the organization s projects, company benefits hugely from employees
creativity and knowledge that they have learnt. After preserving outcomes from employees
experimentations, they (experimentations) are contributed in terms of a company s products, SWOT,
