Henry Sy
Our company, SM, as many of you may already know, came from the hard work of my dad, Henry
Sy, Sr. It is a rags to riches story that even myself did not realize until I went to trace his roots in
China.
His journey from the thatched hut I saw there to the shopping centers he has today is something that
amazes even myself.
His determination, his discipline and his thriftiness have produced an astute and street smart
businessman who has influenced a lot of people. Including us, his children.
My father s perseverance during the different crises our country has gone through has made our
active business pursuits possible for a half century. True, he was disappointed with the economy
many times, but he never saw the reason to quit and instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We opened our first department store in 1972, two months after Martial Law was declared. The
business had a slow start, but progressed steadily. During the Martial Law years, he continued to
open more department stores, reaching a point wherein he could not get space he needed in the
existing shopping centers during that time. He then decided think long term, and invest in properties
for malls, which were patterned after suburban shopping centers, which he had been studying for
some time.
When we started the construction of our first mall in 1983, the Philippines was in the midst of a
debt moratorium and experienced hyper inflation. The economy decline was further aggravated by
the assassination of Ninoy Aquino. Many bankers predicted our demise because my dad came from
nowhere he may had a few department stores and shoe stores at that time, but he was not one of the
financial heavy weights at that time.
Unaffected by criticism, and armed with sheer determination and optimism, he persisted and opened
in 1985 with our department store and supermarket and a few tenants. Many potential lessees were
saying no to lease offers.
At about the same time, given the social unrest of the times, our own Shoemart Makati was faced
with ugly strikes. He almost gave up, but through the encouragement of his employees and
customers, he continued. At that time, he decided emotionally draining disturbances should not

CHAPTER 1
When properly implemented, the cost accounting function can have a pervasive influence in the
modern corporation. Unfortunately, it is not always properly implemented because management
often is not completely aware of all the uses to which the cost accounting function can be put. This
chapter describes the main categories of activities in which this function can become involved, and
can be used as a guide by the controller in creating a well rounded niche for the cost accountant.
EXTERNAL REPORTING
The key task for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Business unit level reports. These reports must include a much larger quantity of information, for the
recipient (the plant manager) needs to know about the operation of each department, as well as a
host of operational issues such as the cost of quality, inventory turnover, machine utilization,
profitability, and cash flow projections. This tends to be the most voluminous of all reporting
packages, as well as the one that includes the greatest mix of financial and operational information.
Function level reports. These reports can be issued to individual departments or at lower levels, for
example, to the supervisors of individual machines. Such reports are custom designed for each
recipient, with some requiring more financial data (e.g., for the sales manager who wants to know
about customer bad

debts or orders booked) and others including almost entirely operational information (e.g., for the
warehouse manager who is interested in inventory turnover, kiting percentages, and receiving
accuracy).
Project specific reports. A project report is slanted more toward just those costs being incurred for a
specific purpose and so tends to be heavy on direct costs and light on most other allocations. This
report usually compares incurred costs against budgeted costs expected to have

The Heroes Of Joe Rantz
Heroes are leaders who are brave, strong willed, and bold. Ordinary people can be heroes if they
have the perseverance to extraordinary actions. Heroes are people who put others needs before
their own. These individuals sacrifice themselves for others. They rise up from rock bottom to do
ground breaking actions that no one believed that they could. To many, Joe Rantz is considered a
true hero for never giving up when others gave up on him.
The life of Joe Rantz was very hectic and filled with many changes. He was born on March 34th,
1914 in Spokane, Washington to Nellie and Harry Rantz. He lived a relatively easygoing and
normal life up till the age of 4 when his mother died. After the death of his mother Joe Rantz moved

So Joe s life in exile began. Although Joe was able to care for himself, his life had become sad,
narrow, and lonely. On a stormy day in November of 1924 Joe s life yet again changed. Thula had
gone into labor with their third child but it took all night for them to get to the doctor so that she
could deliver their first girl, Rose. That was Thula s last straw.. A few weeks later they packed up
once again, picked up Joe from the school house and went live in Thula s parent s basement in Alki
Point, Seattle. By 1925 Harry bought an auto repair and tire shop in Sequim, Washington. He was
enrolled at the school in Sequim which he attended everyday, this is where he met his childhood
sweetheart and the woman that he would eventually marry, Joyce Simdars. One day when Joe
was coming back from school he saw his family in their black car as if they were never coming
back. Harry told Joe that they were leaving and that since Joe was all grown up he was going to
stay in Sequim, alone. So yet again Joe was abandoned in a half finished house with no money
and no one to help him. Soon after, he got a job working for one of his neighbors to help cut
wood. In the summer of 1923, Joe got a letter from his brother Fred who was now living in Seattle
asking Joe to come live with them. So Joe left Sequim and went to live with his brother in Seattle.
While attending the Roosevelt High School, Joe joined the gymnastic team.
Maya Angelou s Poem, My Arkansas
When analyzing Maya Angelou s poem My Arkansas , I noticed it was about the state of Arkansas
and segregation of the African American life. Maya portrays nature into the poem to resemble the
conditions blacks suffered in that time. The poem paints a picture of the hate crimes against black
race and how Arkansas was far from created people equal and was living in the past with the thought
of slaveryand the lynching s that occurred during that time. She makes it clear that blacks where
the low man on the totem pole as she compares it to moss on a tree stating old crimes like moss
pend from poplar trees (Lynn, 2004 p. 699). When we think of moss itself on trees, it is the slimy

Lipoprotein A Essay
Introduction Lipoprotein A was first discovered in humans by Kare Berg in 1963 whilst a study
of variation in LDL antigenicity. The Human gene encoding lipoprotein(a) was cloned in the year
1987(1). Lipoprotein A Structure Lipoprotein A has a similar structure to the LDL molecule with
the addition of a covalently bound specific apolipoprotein A (2). Apolipoprotein(A) is a
homologue of plasminogen and contains several copies of KRINGLE 4 plasminogen, a single
copy of KRINGLE 5 plasminogen and an inactive protease domain (2). Studies have indicated that
the number of KRINGLE 4 domains can range from 51 to 12 giving rise to approximately 34
different apo(a) isoforms. Also,10 distinct types of KIV domains exist for the repeated KIV domains,

Experiments showing that lysine analogues break down lipoprotein A assembly suggest that
lysine binding domains in apo(a) and lysine residues in apo are involved in the primary non
covalent interaction.15. Mutagenesis studies show defective Lp(a) assembly after the removal
of lysine binding sites in apo(a) KIV types 6 8 providing further evidence. A recent study of single
point mutations introduced into the lysine binding sites in KIV 6 8 has shown that KIV 7 and 8
are essential for efficient lipoprotein A assembly (7). Multiple apoB sequences that noncovalently
bind apo(a) are documented. An apoB lysine residue in the N terminus, apoBLys680 mediating
noncovalent binding of an apoB18 fragment to apo(a) have been postulated. Further evidence has
shown that a peptide containing the apoBLys680 residue is bound to apo(a) KIV type 7. C
terminal moiety of apoB has also been hypothesized in the noncovalent interaction with apo(a).
Truncated apoB molecules found in a region between apoB95 (4330 amino acids) and apoB97
(4397 amino acids) has been said to be important for efficient Lp(a) assembly. Characterisation of
the apoB4330 to 4397 regions found a 21 amino acid sequence (amino acids 4372 4392) containing
four lysine residues (including a highly conserved lysine at position 4372) that could be an a apo(a)
binding site. A peptide spanning this
12th Man Essay
Brown, M. T., Zuefle, D. M. Batista, P. J. (2007). Will the real 12th man please stand up? Texas a
m and seattle seahawks settle dispute over right to identify fans as 12th man . Sport Marketing
Quarterly, 16, 115 117.
The legal dispute between the National Football League s Seattle Seahawks and Texas A M
University over the exploitation of the slogan 12th Man is not only a respectable example of the
significance of brand loyalty, but it is also an important case that proves the importance of having a
strong brand equity. Both sport organizations take considerable pride in their supporters and fans,
who they realize is the backbone of their success as an organization/ corporation. Texas A M
University s claim over the use of the phrase 12th Man was arguable but they stood their ground
when the Seahawks defied the University s letter to discontinue their usage of the phrase. The
TAMU Vice President for Communications was protected under the Federal Trademark Act of
1946, which had the purpose of defending the right of the owner to protect the mark that symbolizes
their respective organization. The case between the two warring sport properties (which was
ultimately settled out of court) proved the importance of brand equity and the benefits of it as well
one major benefit being the licensing and merchandising opportunities to sell to other organizations.
In exchange for the Seahawks to use the 12th man trademark, they had to pay a $100,000 licensing
fee plus, publicly
The Theme Of Capitalism In Packingtown, By Upton Sinclair
Upton Sinclair mainly focuses on the issue of capitalism, he illustrates the injustice by showing
the harsh living condition of the workers in Packingtown. When Ona and Jurgis take a tour
around Packingtown, they are shocked to the filthy areas of meatpacking, but still Jurgis tells
Ona, tomorrow I will get a job ... and then we can get a place of our own (Sinclair 16). This quote
shows how determined Jurgis is to start a decent life in the filthy city of Packingtown. He gets a
job sweeping slaughtered cow guts in the factory, although the place is dirty, he is pleased
because he is able to make two dollars for his twelve hours shift. Jurgis doesn t allow his children
to work because he wants them to go to school, but the rest of the family finds work for low
wages. Soon working at the factory, Jurgis is asked to join a union, that was started by workers
who were not happy with the working conditions and wages and wanted to riot for a change.
However, Jurgis didn t join them because he believed If they couldn t do it, let them go
somewhere else (Sinclair 34). This quote shows the mentality that Jurgis has, the eager to work
harder, and those who are lazy will be left behind. The winter comes in Packingtown and brings
lots of deaths because of the cold, a lot of the workers have died, which is not a problem because
there are many more who are willing to take their jobs. Soon, Ona gives birth to a child named,
Antanas, Jurgis is really excited to become a father but had
Nerves-Personal Narrative
I nervously laced up my ballet shoes. Along with all the other girls, we quickly walked over to
the director. We all surrounded and tried to see him. He seemed incredibly mean, the old director
had a stern look on his face, I felt like he was staring right at me. After what seemed like forever,
he finally said something. He started calling numbers. 12, 47, 34 and 88 he shouted in a deep
booming voice. I knew what this meant, he was calling tag numbers so girls would come up and
do the number we should have learned. It definitely was incredibly hard. I probably didn t have
what it takes. The first group of girls had four of them. They all looked very similar, tall, thin with
dark brown hair. I watched them, and realized they were competition.... Show more content on

Jenny Saville Human Body
In this essay we will be looking at the ways contemporary artists represent the body. And how we
no longer look to art for idealist portrayals of the human form.Through contemporary art the body
has become a territory and vessel, which can transmit ideas within our society. We will be exploring
theories surrounding this topic, particularly notes from Mulvey s The Gaze and Leo Bersani s The
Freudian Gaze ; where they have successfully pinpointed why society s depiction of the humanbody
has become romanticised and idealised. We have decided to analyse the work of Jenny Saville and
the way in which she paints series of her grotesque and yet entirely realistic self portrait. Artists like
Hannah Wilke , Collier Schorr have also searched ways... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her S.O.S, Starifcation Object Series (1974)the artist uses her naked body as the subject
objectifying herself according to Sandy Flitterman, Wilke is reinforcing the one thing she is
trying to subvert, this is because, unlike Sprinkle, who is a caricature of pornography, this artist is
considered sexually desirable and flirtacious, this reinforces the visual language of the objectified
female body. The sultry eyes, seductively parted lips and nakedness of Wilke in the S.O.S
collection can be read as cultural signifiers of female sexual invitation and availability. However,
Wilke s use of the gum vaginas on her face and body could be interpreted as her way of
understanding how an attractive artist, or any woman may be seen at the forefront as an object of
desire and then secondary, as a professional. Despite this, critics have criticised her work because
she is presenting her pretty , hetereosexual, pleasure giving body as though it is to be wanted
which may be considered politically incorrect and treacherously anti feminist . In another way it is
likely to appear that Wilke s work seems to be contradictory of what she intends to illustrate, Jackie

use, very portable, can be used anywhere, and is one of the easiest things to learn. Its called a yo yo,
and can be played for seconds, minutes, hours, and if you re really good you could play it for days.
Doing yo yo, can improve hand eye coordination and help you be more active.
Buy a yo yo.
If no string get a string, any will do but we suggest a yo yo string.
On one side of the yo yo string, there should be a hole. If no hole either side will work.
Take the one side and unwind the string by twisting it. A new hole should appear.
Slide the hole over the yo yo and rewrap the string tight.
Check string length by holding the string on the end not attached to the yo yo, and drop the yo yo
from your belly button.

Wind up yo yo string around the gag in the yo yo, either way is fine. If string is slipping try to pull
the string tighter, or put your finger on the yo yo and wrap the string around it. When done pull
your finger out if doing step 9. Put your middle finger in the hole in the string, the string hole
should go past your knuckle. If no hole, make a slip knot on the side that is loose. Release yo yo
from belly button. Right before the yo yo runs out of string to go down, give the string a jerk and
it should go back up. If not, rewrap and try again. If your yo yo hits the floor, it might break.
Continue this until done with your yo yo. If you play with a yo yo, you will have to get up and
move around making you way more active than sitting on the couch. This toy can go anywhere
with you and is one of the most portable ones around. The yo yo is very easy to learn, and can be
played for long or short periods of time. The next time you have no idea what to do, pick up a yo
