TELANGANA
DIPLOMA EXAMINATION (C-24)
C-24 - SEPT. 2024
SEMESTER I, MID-I EXAM
EE - 106
BASIC ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Exam Date : 28-9-2024 Session : AN

Duration : 1 Hour [03:30 PM To 04:30 PM] [Total Marks : 20]

PART - A
Instructions : 1. Answer ALL questions.
2. Each question carries ONE mark. 4 ×1 = 4

1. Define temperature Co-efficient of resistance.

Ans: • The temperature coefficient of resistance (a) is defined as the fractional change in
resistance per degree change in temperature from a reference temperature (usually
0 ° C or 20 ° C).

• It tells us how much the resistance of a material changes with temperature.

2. Define Electric Current.

Ans: The directed flow of free electrons (or charge) is called electric current.

3. Define electric work.

Ans: Electric work is the energy transferred when an electric charge moves through a
potential difference.

It is given by W = Q × V

4. Write the formula for electric power in terms of voltage and current.

Ans: Electric Power is given by : P = V × I or P = I ² R or P = V ² /R

Where I is current and V is voltage.

PART - B
Instructions : 1. Answer TWO questions.
2. Each question carries THREE marks. 2 ×3 = 6

5. (a) Distinguish between D.C and A.C quantities in any three aspects.
Ans: Refer Topic 1.3.
(or)
5. (b) Calculate the resistivity of a material with a resistance of 3W, cross-sectional
area of 25 cm 2 and length of 10 cm.
Ans: Refer Example 1.4.
6. (a) Calculate the input power of a 2H.P motor with efficiency 80%.
Ans: Refer Example 2.8.

PART - C
Instructions : 1. Answer TWO questions.
2. Each question carries FIVE marks. 2 × 5 = 10

7. (a) Derive an express ion for equ ivalent resis tance when th ree r es istors are
connected in series.

Ans: Refer Topic 1.10.

(or)

7. (b) The effective resistance of two resistances when connected in series across
200 V supply is 50 ohm. If the voltage drop across one of the resistance is 80 V.
Find the value of two resistances.

Ans: Refer Example 1.12.

8. (a) The details of electrical load in a house are as follows :

(i) 3 lamps of 60 watt each for 5 hours per day

(ii) 2 fluorescent tubes of 40 watt each for 4 hours per day.

(iii) 4 fans of 75 watt each for 10 hours per day

(iv) 1 electric iron of 1kW for 2 hours per day.

Determine the energy consumption and cost of energy at the rate of rupees
4.25/- per kwh for a month of may 2014.

Ans: Refer Example 2.9.

(or)

8. (b) Three resistance are in parallel. The current in the first resistor is 0.1 A. The
power dissipation in the second resistor is 3 watts. The voltage drop across the
third resistor is 100 volts. Determine the values of resistor and the total
resistance, if total current is 0.2 A.

Ans: Refer Example 1.13.
