in school textbook and
curriculum

 Educational institutions develop children


into responsible citizen and national
leaders. The ideas beliefs and attitudes
that people learn from their education
and experience are upheld throughout
their lives, to a great extent.

 Women and girls are generally underepresented
in school textbooks around the world, if they are
included in patriarchal gender roles. Both women
and men are often depicted in gender stereotype
roles.
 Most textbooks perpetuate traditional gender
roles portraying men as heroine and women as
care takers.

 Gender based injustice is very active in
curricula. Eg:- in curricula prepared by a
national body for a high school class. There is
Hindi story called “bade ghar ki beti”. This
story communicates that it is a tragedy and
disappointment that a family does not have any
son. Such lessons consider women as inferior.

Role of schools in nurturing young people as
masculine and feminine selves

 Schools play a very decisive role in developing


children as masculine and feminine gender roles.
 The children obtained from schools specific
experiences that develop in them a sense of
gender as male or female or transgender
 For example, when a teacher reacts differently to
the boys and girls, it clearly gives a message to the
child about the stereotypes roles of the masculine
and feminine genders.

Teachers have very important roles in


promoting gender equality and justice
in education. The outlook and attitude
of teachers deeply influence the
student.

 Gender bias refers to the undue preference towards


the gender, either in masculine or feminine.
 It results in unequal treatment and expectations
with regard to the person on the basis of gender.
 It is evident in curricula the attitude of teachers and
classroom interactions.
 The educational system is still gender biased in
various aspects.

 Education plays a crucial role in shaping the minds of people
of next generation towards gender equality by providing
equal educational opportunities to all the genders to
improve overall activities of the society as a hole.
 Only education can ensure the success of a woman.
 It is important that boys and girls are provides equal

 All forms of gender bias should be eliminated from the field
of education

Problems face by transgenders
in employment opportunities

 Transgender is a term used to describe a person


whose gender identity is different from his
biological sex.
 The gender identity is different from sex
assigned at birth.
 Some transgender people identify themselves
as neither male nor female or as combination of
male and female.

o Disrespect for their gender


o Physical harassment
o Mental torture
o Sexual abuse

 School curriculum should facilitate gender equality


and gender justice.
 It should help the students develop positive attitude

 A sense of gender justice should be developed
among learners.
 The curriculum should be capable of meeting the
gender related needs of the society.

 Develops students awareness of the importance of

 Ensure adequate representation of both men and
women in the curriculum.
