Representation of gender roles
in school textbook and
curriculum

Women and girls are generally underepresented
in school textbooks around the world, if they are
included in patriarchal gender roles. Both women
and men are often depicted in gender stereotype
roles.
Most textbooks perpetuate traditional gender
roles portraying men as heroine and women as
care takers.

Gender based injustice is very active in
curricula. Eg:- in curricula prepared by a
national body for a high school class. There is
Hindi story called “bade ghar ki beti”. This
story communicates that it is a tragedy and
disappointment that a family does not have any
son. Such lessons consider women as inferior.
