Methanol Presentation

This document summarizes a student's 3rd year chemical engineering research project on simulating and integrating a methanol production process. The project involves developing a methanol process, simulating it using Aspen simulation software, and applying process integration techniques to maximize energy recovery. The objectives are to simulate the methanol process, develop an energy-efficient heat exchanger network using pinch analysis, and reduce overall process energy needs and costs. Process integration aims to match hot and cold streams in the methanol plant to minimize the number and size of heat exchangers required.

Aspen Plus is a Computer Simulation
Package for Chemical Processes
It is Primarily used as a labour and time
saving tool
It is still only a tool, and does not replace the

Process

Summary
Aspen Plus is a great tool for the
development of chemical processes or
carrying out analysis on existing
processes
Process Integration gives a reduction in
the amount of Energy required in the
process
Pinch Technology can be used to reduce
the number of Heat Exchangers required
