B. The mass flow rate , kg/sec (0.4021)
B. The volume flow rate of the refrigerant at
inlet to the compressor; L/sec (26.276L/s)
C. The work of the compressor, KJ/kg
(38.32KJ/kg)

(15.41Kw)
E. The heat rejected, KW (75.41KW)
F. COP (3.89)
h1 at hg @ -10C = 401.55KJ.kg
v1 at vg @ -10C = 65.34L/kg
h3 = h4 at hf @ 42C = 252.352KJ/kg
h2 = h at 42C and s2 (s1 = s2) = 439.87KJ/kg
2. A refrigeration system is to be used to cool
45000kg of water from 29C to 18C in 5 hours.

1.The refrigerating effect per unit mass
increases.
2. The mass flow rate per ton decreases.
3. The volume flow rate per ton decreases.
4. The COP increases.
5. The work per ton decreases.
6. The heat rejected at the condenser per ton
decreases.

A. Evaporation temperature, Ans = 38.3F
B. The refrigerating effect, Ans = 54.71Btu/lb
C. The capacity of plant, Ans = 6.29Tons
D. The power required to compressed, Ans =
3.83HP
E. Coeefficient of performance, Ans = 7.74
H1 = @ 50 psia and 50F = 84.24Btu/lb
S1 = 0.17187
H2 = @ S1 and 120psia = 91.3067Btu/lb
H3 = h4 = hf at 120 psia = 29.53Btu/lb
Effects of increasing the condenser

2. The mass flow rate per ton increases.
3. The volume flow rate per ton increases.
4. The COP decreases.
5. The work per ton increases.
6. The heat rejected at the condenser per ton

2. The mass flow rate per ton decreases.
3. The volume flow rate per ton decreases.
4. The COP increases.
5. The work per ton decreases.
6. The heat rejected at the condenser per ton
decreases.
An ideal freon-12 refrigerating system has a

A. The mass, Ans = 13169.45 lb/hr
B. Compressor power, Ans= 145223.44Btu/hr
C. Heat capacity of the system = 745223.44Btu/hr
D. The mass of water circulated through the

freon-12 circulating through the system at
30lb/min. liquid refrigerant at 141 psia and

superheated vapor at 21.4psia and 5F enter
the compressor. Calculate:
a. The refrigerating effect, Ans = 47.86Btu/lb
b. The plant capacity in tons, Ans = 7.18tons
c. The compressor power, Ans = 11.83Hp

H1 = @ 21.4 psia and 5F = 79.0155
S1 = 0.174365Btu/lbR
H2 = @ s1 and 140psia = 95.7366Btu/lb
H3 = h4 =hf @ 100F = 31.16Btu/lb
Assignment
Provide a table of Refrigerant 22 from the book of
refrigeration and air conditioning by Wilbert F. Stoecker and
Jerold W. Jones (Xerox only)
A refrigerant 22 refrigeration system carries a load of 82KW at
an evaporator pressure of 354kPa and a condenser
pressure of 1460kPa. The liquid refrigerant is subcooled by
4 degrees before entering the expansion valve and the
vapor is superheated by 5 degrees before entering the
compressor. The compressor operates at 28r/s. The stroke-
bore ratio of the twin-cylinder compressor is 1.20 and the
actual volumetric efficiency is 82 percent. Determine the a)
mass flow rate of refrigerant, b) the mass flow rate of
cooling water in the condenser for a 7 degree change in
temperature, c) the bore and stroke.
