Definition of dropout.

 Whenever a student leaves his primary,

secondary education or graduation in
between without completion or
completes it through other institute, it is
said to be a dropout by that student.
 Whereas a measure of analysis of
dropout is dropout rate.
 Dropout rate refers to the percentage
of students that do not complete their
high school education.
Why we need to think
about this topic?
 Physical disorders (21.8%)
 Mental retardation (20.9%)
 Child labor (8.1%)
 Financial issues (13.6%)
 Family issues (17.1%)
 School related problems (18.5%)
Calculation of dropout
rate:
 Add the number of students that
graduated/ completed school
education, the number of students that
dropped out and the number of students
that graduated through alternative
means. The sum of the three numbers is
known as the "dropout denominator.“
 Divide the number of students that
graduated with a standard high school
diploma by the dropout denominator.
 For example, if you had a total intake of
900 students , 75 dropouts and 25 choose
other way school, you would add 900
plus 75 plus 25 to get a dropout
denominator of 1,000.
 The result of this division is the graduation
rate. Using our example from above, this
would give us 900 / 1,000 or a graduation
rate of 0.9. Which can be the converted
into percentage.
