Response Spectrum Construction: Guide

This document presents a project on response spectrum construction. It introduces response spectrum modelling and defines it as the graphical representation of natural period versus acceleration. It discusses two literature sources and outlines the objectives of studying response spectra from Koyna and El Centro earthquake data. The advantages of response spectra are described, and the methodology explains how to draft a combined response spectrum graph from El Centro data and determine structural response. The conclusion examines results from analyzing structures using response spectra from different earthquake records and a structural model.

INTRODUCTION
The properties, limitations, engineering interpretation
and modern concepts relating to various types of earthquake
design response spectra, including the acceleration,
displacement and velocity spectra.

Definition of RESPONSE SPECTRUM MODELLING-

Response Spectrum Modeling is the Graphical
Representation of Natural period verses acceleration.

OBJECTIVES
• STUDY OF TERMS RELATED TO EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING,
RESPONSE SPECTTRUM CONSTUCTION OF KOYNA AND EL
CENTRO DATA.

• ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL MODEL WITH REFFERENCE TO

PEAK VALUES OF EARTHQUAKE DATA.

• TO DRAFT A GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION OF RESPONSE

OBTAINED FROM GROUND ACCELERATIONS.
ADVANTAGES OF RESPONSE SPECTRUM

• Response spectrum gives valuable information about the

period at which maximum acceleration can be expected if any
earthquake is used to excite our SDOF system.
• if our structure period is t second and if earthquake input
motion contains high spectral acceleration at the same T
period, then resonance occures so by looking at the input
response spectrum we can manipulate the stuctural period to
avoid resonance condition.
• The response spectrum is used as a design tool to ensure that
for the type of earthquake whose response spectrum is being
considered , the structural response is within safe limit.
METHODOLOGY
• THE RESPONSE SPECTRUM IS A GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION
OF TIME AS ABSICA AND VELOCITY,
DISPLACEMENT,ACCELERATION AS ORDINATE.
• THE VARIOUS GRAPHS OF VELOCITY ,ACCELERATION,
DIPLACEMENTS HAVE BEEN DRAFTED TO CALACULATE ONE
STANADARD RESPOSE SPECTRUM FROM AVAILABLE
ELCENTRO DATA TO DRAW ONE COMBINED GRAPH
• THE ACTUAL RESPONSE ANALYSIS IS CAN BE DETEREMINED
FOR A PARTICULAR STRUCTURE AT SPECIFIC INTENSITY.

CONCLUSION
 Examine the result obtaining from the
structure at a specified intensity and analysis
the response spectra from el centro data
,koyana dam data and stuctural model .
