Objectives

 Determine the position of points on the Cartesian coordinate

plane.

 Determine the importance of Cartesian coordinate plane in real

life.
REMINDERS…

1. Please raise your hand if you want to talk, DON’T SAY MA’AM.
2. Please seat properly.
3. In group activity, please move quietly. Do not argue with your
group mates.
4. Be active but in appropriate way.
5. Know your good manners, SAY “EXCUSE ME” if you want to
urinate or if you want to go outside
6. Do not talk with your seatmate while the lesson is going on,
unless you are ask to do so.

Ikaw ang Hero ko..
The Philippines' national
hero. Born in Calamba,
Laguna, on June 19, 1861.
Published his
masterpiece Noli Me
Tangere in Berlin(Germany)
in 1887 and his second JOSE RIZAL
novel El Filibusterismo in
Ghent(Belgium) in 1891.
He founded the secret society,
Katipunan, on July 7, 1892, to
fight Spain. He was also
president of the Tagalog republic
from August 24, 1896 to May 10,
1897. Born in Tondo, Manila, on
November 30, 1863.
ANDRES BONIFACIO
More popularly known as Balagtas,
he is considered the prince of Tagalog
poets. Born in Panginay, Bigaa,
Bulacan, on April 2, 1788. He
wrote Florante at Laura, a
masterpiece of local versification,
upholding moral and social values; it
served as the basic foundation of the
FRANCISCO BALTAZAR BALAGTAS
Philippine literature.
His name is often mentioned
during the month of August,
not only because he was born
in August but more so because
he is considered the “Father of
the National Language” or the
“Ama ng Wikang Pambansa.”

MANUEL L. QUEZON
 Brain of the Katipunan. Born
in Trozo, Manila, on
December 15, 1875. He joined
the Katipunan in 1894 and
became Bonifacio's trusted
friend and advicer. He wrote
the Kartilya ng Katipunan,
theprimer of the Katipunan
which embodied the teachings EMILIO JACINTO
of the organization.
On a library wall, the librarian
wants to put the posters of the
National Heroes. He arranged the
posters as follows:
Determine the location of the following
heroes on the wall using ordered pairs.

1. Jose Rizal (0,0)

2. Lapu-Lapu (5,-1)
3. General Antonio (3,1)
Luna
4. Andres Bonifacio (-3,1)
5. Manuel L. Quezon
(-5,1)
Plotting of points in Cartesian Coordinate Plane
Determine the Quadrant where the ordered pair belongs.
The x-component of the point (x, y) moves the point
along a horizontal line. If the x-value is positive, the
point moves “x-units” towards the right side. On the other
hand, if the x-value is negative, the point moves “x-units”
towards the left.
The y-component of the point (x, y) moves the point
along a vertical line. If the y-value is positive, the point
moves “y-units” in an upward direction. However, if the y-
value is negative, the point moves “y-units” in a downward
direction.
What are the sign of ordered pairs in
the following Quadrants?
Quadrant I
(+,+)
Quadrant II
(-, +)
Quadrant III
(-,-)
Quadrant IV
Lets watch
(+,-)
and see…..
Example 1:
Plot the point (4,2) and
identify which quadrant
or axis it is located.
I will start by placing a (4,2)
dot at the origin which
is the intersection of
x and y axes. Think of
the origin as the “home”
where all points come
from.
Example 2:

Plot the point (–5,

4) and identify which
quadrant or axis it is
located.
Start by placing a dot
at the origin which is
known as the center of
the Cartesian
coordinate axis.
Janine goes to school everyday.
If their house is located at the
point of origin and walks 10
meters East, then another 5
meters North. Determine the
location of the school using
ordered pairs.

1.A(6,-5)
2.B(5,4)
3.C(-1,0)
4.D(5,-4)
5.E(-3,-8)
